Today Market April 2025

After April’s Fools day is Liberation Day. Enjoy :man_shrugging:

Relieved that I bought collars for all my BABA positions.

Did not expect to see American president actively sabotaging American economy. Interesting time.

Markets always react to policy shifts, but the long-term fundamentals matter more. Curious to see how this plays out.

China stocks are not much affected by this Liberation tariffs. Most of them don’t sell stuffs in USA. For those that sell, American consumers are the ones who will be paying the tariffs. So their profitability won’t be affected.

Well in theory as Chinese goods become more expensive people will by fewer of them. Since so much Chinese stuff is cheap discretionary goods it’s not that hard for folk to cut back. Fewer trips to Wallyworld. Maybe that iPhone made in China doesn’t really need to be upgraded every year or two.

I think many of the imports are by American companies manufacturing in China for sale in USA e.g Apple. AAPL declines by nearly 10%. Btw, AAPL is an American company.

Biggest decline since the first Trump admin. Why does Trump hate America so much?

Agree with this guy:

Early days yet. The Trump market, inflation adjusted, kicked butt over the Biden market.

You realize Biden was president as late as Jan this year?

How is the market today better than Jan 2025?

The crucial dates were when the elections were decided.

The comment didn’t even address mine. Look at the stock market performance from 2016 to 2020, then from late 2020 to late 2024. Even if you don’t adjust for inflation the Trump market kicked butt over the Biden market.
