Won’t change to EV unless mandated, would drive gas cars till no more petrol stations, no more repairs/ maintenance shops and everywhere have charging stations. My driving is so infrequent, there is no way I would change my cars till 20 years later.
Nothing to be convinced or not. Not interested in buying any new car, gas or EV. Unless it is worthwhile to change, so far your maths show me a BIG no. Frankly I don’t do comparison studies nor care about monitoring mileage, those period of my life is over. To be more blunt, not interested in saving $, what I want to do is minimize trouble and minimize time expended. Change itself takes time to evaluate. F… it.
Global warming religious fanatics have hyped EVs. But most can’t afford to buy them. It will be 50 years before they take over. Meanwhile global warming is more likely caused by nature not man.
When LED TVs were introduced even 32 inch TVs were expensive, but now no one will buy as everyone is going bigger size TVs affordable price.
With more and more competition, like GM’s majority of new 2023 cars are EVs, they will be affordable. When that comes, no one will prefer 250 miles/charge as that time new technology will be 500 miles/charge !
It’s a time thing, not a distance thing. The only way to overcome it would be a technological breakthrough allowing 300-500 miles charge times in the same amount of time it takes to fill a tank with gas. That or batteries that are swapped out at “electric car islands” at gas stations. Which would of course require that makers standardize them just as gasoline is standardized - another hurdle to adoption.
My Yamaha MT-07 has a 200 mile crusing range. Who cares? In and out of the gas station in 5 minutes. BTW - Honda makes the CBR 300 which sells for under 5k OTD, gets 75 mpg and cruises comfortably at 70 on the freeway. That’s REAL green economy. And perfect for CA where the weather is good for riding three quarters of the time. Splitting lanes to get around horrible BA traffic jams is another plus. So is the exhilaration.
Electricity is standardized but not the batteries or charging systems. Think Beta and VHS. If an automated electric island could pull a battery out of any car, swap it with a fully charged one and charge you for the electricity plus a small amount for battery depreciation that would be one way to solve the time-to-charge issue. This is a huge hurdle for electrics once you get out of urban centers. I hardly go anywhere where I could charge an electric car without making a major detour and standing around forever. Even reporting for jury duty would be a challenge in an electric car.
Too cryptic for people to understand Need to write a prose? Many arguments for EVs focus narrowly on the car itself, conveniently ignore the support and ecosystem. EVs are f… inconvenient. Is not ready for mainstream yet. Not everyone want to be an early adopter.
90 seconds to swap out a battery but a 7 minute video to explain it
Never heard of this option; where is it available?
Edited to say if the the pump really does 10gal/min how many gallons does that car take?
If the Fed indeed cut rates in March, they will find it hard to raise it again when after the panic subsides in 3 months or so. Money would stay super loose even after the short term shock. It’s like the Fed lowers rate for no reason. Market will rally like nuts. It’s already starting to price that in.
