YIMBY movement is gaining momentum

The problem that SB9 proponentswill have in affluent cities like Cupertino (and RBA in general) is that the typical retiree/late career homeowner of a $2-3M house is likely to also have a stock portfolio of $5M or so. They will not be motivated purely by profit motive to convert their SFH with its nice front and back yards into a duplex or fourplex where they have to share space with strangers. At best, some affluent homeowners may be motivated to use SB9 or the ADU laws to create units/flats for their own adult children to settle down in

Not backing down that easily.

The YIMBYS and fools are slowly learning that overturning laws of economics and morality is not so simple and cannot be driven by mob think.

EIRs have been the biggest disaster for the building industry since the 70s. A bunch of bullshit to allow nimbyies to keep everyone else out. Lies corruption and evil in the name of environmental protection. The EPA is literally a terrorist organization… the biggest cause of homelessness in America. Save the spotted owl wackos (who would tie themselves to trees) destroyed our lumber industry.
Liberals guilt shamelessly caused our homeless problems

They love to wring their hands over a couple of owls that are actually being displaced by barred owls not logging. Meanwhile there are a million homeless caused by environmental limitations on growth and housing restrictions
Versus saving 2000 owls.

Merc: Cupertino faces its housing reputation as cities get ready for SB 9

Los Altos Hills, which passed its ordinance last month, plans to discourage lot splitting entirely and ban the addition of accessory dwelling units on subdivided lots.

Criminals who openly flout state regulations.

Cupertino Councilmember Kitty Moore has already said at a recent meeting that she wanted to create standards that are “as strict as possible” and then potentially loosen the design standards later if needed.

NIMBYs gonna be NIMBYs.

So I went to LA hills to meet the planner to subdivide a lot. They would let me subdivide but after the two SB9 lots are created then the maximum you can build on them is only 800 Sq feet . So If you add 800 Sq feet ADU then the maximum you could build on each lot is JUST 1600 square feet. They passed this ordinance in emergency and are openly saying that we want to discourage developers.

1600 sq feet , restricted to a single story and and no more than 16 foot in height.

These criminals will get sued. Most LAH lots are huge. There’s no reason only a tiny 800ft structure can be built on it.

What’s the lot size after you subdivided? 800sqft is tiny.

YIMBIYS upset at not being able to encroach into NIMBYS property rights.

0.8 Acre

Can you belive they are only allowing a maximum dwelling of 1600 sq feet restricted to Single Story of no more than 16 feet in height

To be clear for my specific LOT— It was 1.6 Acre getting subdivided in two lots of 0.8 each will only get a 1600 sq feet house on each lot, Only Single story and no more than 16 feet height

Crazy

Sue those NIMBYs. It’s clearly against state law.

Only thing sb9 seems to have achieved is to put housing density into kitchen table conversation. And seems like discussion is not going well for its supporters. What the California legislators have achieved is to shrug off the discussion off their shoulders to the shoulders of community leaders.

Nimbyies win. They always do.

NIMBYS do not always win. They lost in stopping SB9. The battle has just shifted from state capitol to city halls. The left found it easy to take down SFH zoning at state level but it aroused the neighborhoods and left is now finding it hard to fight thousands of city councils at once.
