Nevada is not a true desert like the Sahara… it is a chaparral covered high mountain plateau aka the Great Basin…with 11 alpine mtn ranges.
Reno has ideal weather except in the winter, too cold unless you are a skier. Little rain and lots sunshine plus plenty of water from the Sierras
Carson Valley is full of ponds and lakes. Nevada grows a lot of hay exported to California.
Vegas has ideal weather except for the summer…
Sahara is unlivable. Great Basin is borderline living… 
The problem is government cares more about fish than housing…

The only negative is optimism is getting very high. We aren’t in euphoria yet. It’s better if people are worried some.

My friend’s buddy bought a house in Bakersfield. She had to move due to a job and now the house is vacant because nobody wants to rent there.
Still negative in Pittsburg and Antioch!!! Much closer to home… no need to hire property manager!!! Cash flow positive laughing all the way to the bank every month!!! Time to buy!!! 
Unfortunately, this goes back to why one should buy in markets where jobs are either coming or there/nearby. No jobs, forget it. Let’s not even mention the distance factor. Now, who is to say it couldn’t turn around (ala Amazon moving in) but time is money…

But the water supply in Nevada that supports the alfalfa crop is as threatened and sparse as anywhere else in the arid west. Lake Meed and the Colorado River are oversubscribed. The alfalfa crops are unsustainable over the long run.

I can relate.
I often share the foibles of aging with a friend is three years older than I and also of stoic German descent. We both are dealing with eldercare issues and children/grandchildren simultaneosly. The conversation often turns to “this is what we have to look forward to”.
He has come up with an acerbic solution as he is apt to do. He calls it his Highway 89 plan. He found a tight turn on SR89 that drops off a few hundred feet down a mountainside. He says when he sees that he has hit the point of having to end up like his own parents. he will take a final ride on his favorite Harley and just plunge off the turn to spare himself and his children from having to deal with him the way we are dealing with our own parents.
The term “expert” means nothing in news stories except that some false Messiah is spouting off again.

I noticed long ago that the titles taking up the most space in bookstores were the self-help section. Right after all of the faddish diet books.
People are always looking for the “magic formula” that must be out there to achieve nirvana and there is always someone willing to sell them one.
The sad truth is that the formula exists inside of each of us. And, it is as different for each of us as we are different from each other.
You will be pleasantly surprised if you are reasonably wealthy, living a good lifestyle and getting a bit lucky with your genetics. Maybe you are not even half way there yet.
I used to play tennis somewhere. My play time often coincided with an older guy who appeared to be in his early sixties playing next to my court. One day we chatted and he told me he was actually 86! He still ran like he’s in his early sixties. He has no problem living another 20 years comfortably with his physical conditions.
My wife is 45… So according to Groucho Marx I am only 45. She wants me to live till 100… I keep active skiing hiking water skiing maintaining my properties. But if I become senile or bed ridden I would rather be dead…
I want to live even if I were bed ridden and in constant pain…
