Amit is into Zuck…
Zuck is a master of manipulating people’s minds and distorting the reality… Ofc, he knows what it is.
Guess he didn’t watch the event carefully…

I finally watched a demo of the vision pro headset and I must say the concept is superb.
I’ll wait for the 4th/5th gen (smaller form factor, bugs to go away, more app integrations) before I bite.
Also what is Apple’s long-term commitment to this product? They spent billions on self-driving and have nothing to show for it. So wondering if they will have the …um…resilience to keep iterating and improving on AR with wall street pressure too.
Don’t know why you are asking this question.
Plenty of “shows” already. R&D is spread out to other products. The way Apple builds category products is to break them into many useful component builds that can turn into profitable business. AV needs maps
streaming music/ video
AI chips
speaker system
Car Play
Spatial computers
… These components can also be used for other category products ![]()

Just as Stability AI and OpenAI inspired a legion of followers and challengers in China, Vision Pro will likely set in motion a period of rapid development at local device makers, buoyed by increased investor confidence.

Zhu also believes that Apple will attract a flood of developers to create applications and content for the Vision Pro ecosystem. These developers will want to maximize the reach of their work so they will likely also publish them on other platforms, benefiting the less influential players.
That’s META would benefit.
“When we examine the industry landscape, while Vision Pro didn’t unveil groundbreaking new AR use cases at WWDC, it has created a pivotal development platform for AR applications. This platform will play a significant role in driving the global growth of the AR application ecosystem.”
Yes. Eager to see what creative developers can come up with.
Its earlier product, the Xreal Light, is similar to Vision Pro. But the team soon found that many people were using the glasses for watching videos and playing games. These simpler tasks don’t require features like SLAM algorithms, which gather information about the physical environment, maps it and puts the user on the map. So the company subsequently introduced a model without SLAM, which is cheaper and has a longer battery life as a result, the Xreal Air.
Is this what a Vision Air would be?
And a Vision SE for connecting people ![]()

Won’t happen. U and ARM would be standalone independent companies. No tech companies would be allowed to acquire them. IMHO, U and ARM are must-owned stocks… in addition to AAPL and NVDA.

“VR headset”??? Not a headset and focus on AR, not VR.
The Vision Pro is one of those I can’t believe this is real products that takes about five seconds to convince you that it’s magical . The mouse made the Mac, the click wheel made the iPod, the capacitive touchscreen made the iPhone and iPad, and for the Apple Vision Pro, eye and hand-tracking are the secret sauce.

I see tons of potential, and the only hurdles are the $3,500 price tag and two-hour battery life. I know a lot of people are horrified at the price, which is a lot, but it also feels kind of low for something so state of the art. I know that sounds crazy, but when you consider how the Vision Pro goes beyond 2D computing and you add up the equivalent of multiple physical displays, 3D cameras, a theater-sized screen, surround sound speakers, and hand and eye-tracking, it’s not as absurd as it sounds.
Actually is cheap ![]()

+AND hence what its market size is.
Did John Paczkowski invited to the event? Or just watching the event from a computer/ TV?
It’s a platform, Apple insists. I agree. But a platform for what?
…
Games seems to be the obvious application, but my demo noticeably didn’t feature one (perhaps it wasn’t ready to).
No developers except Disney are given early access to Vision Pro. Notice CEO Bob Igner is there? He gave some hints.
Movies? I could turn a room in my house into a private theater for the same amount of money.
Refer to response above + not everyone has a spare room. A undergraduate living in a dorm room can has a full blown home theatre system with Vision Pro.
Work applications? I’m not sure why I need goggles when I have my MacBook.
Sometimes is a goggle, sometimes is a headset… is a spatial computer. Refer to more imaginative YouTubers.
And so the big question remains: How are we really going to use this thing? And more importantly, how are they ?
John is even less imaginative than @manch. When Mac was released, we know is a computer. But we don’t know exactly what will we use it for. Desktop publishing was the first killer app. Other than Disney, the developers just got their hands on it, wait till early next year to see what these creative guys gave us. If there is no killer apps yet, can always use it as a home theatre system while waiting for the killer apps.
From slashdot I read some ppl said it will have great Porn applications.
.
Anyhoo, computer is multi-purpose. Everybody would use it differently. John is viewing it as an accessory… from his choice of words, headset and goggles. Porn is an obvious apps but Apple won’t allow them to be loaded up in AppStore. Below has to happen…
No, I don’t think Apple will allow side load. People watching p**n on Apple headset will be damaging for the Apple brand. There will be plenty of other use cases for the headset.
Biggest challenge I see is how fast can Apple drive down the cost. Otherwise Zuck may come in from the low end. Zuck may not be a very innovative guy but he has proved he can copy really fast and really well. Apple just made a blueprint of what a great XR headset looks like.
I see this as a niche product, even more niche than the Apple Watch(which is not really that niche but less sales than iphone). And no it’s not due to higher Apple pricing. Use cases primarily today’s gamers + few more categories/users which IMO does not add up to large numbers. Don’t think large sections of people will want to have something strapped to their faces+eyes for long periods.
Is not up to Apple Inc. SEC could force Apple to open its AppStore including VisionStore.
Many fast followers. META, Samsung, Google and Microsoft.
I wear my eyeglasses for almost 24 hours per day. Through time, size of Vision will shrink… lighter, smaller… how small, I don’t know… may be like contact lenses?
“long”? Currently, battery last only two hours. Barely enough to watch a 3D movie.
How large is large? Referring to first, second, third, fourth, fifth, … year?
Initial estimate for PC is a small number. IBM thinks PC is a toy.
Roberts called his computer the Altair 8800… he expected to sell about 800 machines a year.
