AAPL investors donât care much because such disputes are common in healthcare industry and happened a few times in Apple history. Only ignorant non-AAPL investors or gullible people who are easily influenced by media think is a big deal.
Btw, the China ban is a storm in a teacup. Many Chinese government officials have two phones: an iPhone and a Chinese phone for official use. There is no impact on iPhone sale. However, would increase sale of Chinese phone esp by Huawei since those government officials who donât have two phones have to buy a Chinese phone.
These Chinese government officials must really love Apple to effectively pay double for their beloved iPhones. No doubt some will. But will all or even most of them pay double? Unlikely.
Every big trend starts from small steps, and the trend has been clear for a while now.
For some random government employee thinking of upgrading his iPhone, he now has to also buy an android phone to use in office.
So now he would need to buy 2 phones if he insists on buying an iPhone. Versus just buying a Xiaomi or Huawei.
Most of the phone capabilities are abstracted away in all these super apps in China. People donât use iMessage. They use WeChat. They donât use Apple Pay. They scan payment QR code with cameras.
The phone OS is vastly less important for Chinese users than the rest of the world.
Chinese officials are also Chinese. They also use WeChat and Alipay.
We are talking about new government policies rolling out in more Chinese government agencies. Previously these government workers were not banned to carry iPhones. And as this government ban trend becomes clearer to people, government employees now know itâs just a matter of time before their own agencies will ban iPhones. They will think twice before investing in an iPhone.
I just think that increased friction => less sales.
Not saying it will be zero. Just reduced.
Overall the Chinese society is closing off. Trend will be to look at all foreign ideas/goods with increasing suspicion. We are just seeing more and more of this trend strengthening everyday.
Will be increasingly tough for all foreign brands including Apple and Tesla.
Apple (AAPL.O) can for now resume sales of its flagship smartwatches, after a U.S. appeals court on Wednesday paused a government commissionâs import ban on the devices imposed in a patent dispute over its medical monitoring technology.
