If Trump is able to get Amazon and other e-retailers to pay to the USPS on the cost basis, that will create a formidable competition in last mile shipping business. No one can still beat USPS for its reach in rural areas.
IIRC, He has already been able to make shippers from outside the USA pay 80% of the cost of shipping within USA.

Republicans have been at war with the USPS since the Bush years. They want to force them to shutdown and privatize shipping. Only reason USPS is showing a loss is they made USPS prepay 75 years of pension obligations (no other agency or private company does that). Stupidest thing is that it will hurt the rural resident the most if the USPS goes away.
The USPS has been on life support forever. Amazon is phasing them out anyway in favor of its own delivery service. Granted, Amazon has had issues scaling it.
They should pay for their pension obligations as they go. That’s why they don’t have billions in unfunded liabilities. Pensions only work if the group paying in keeps growing. Once the growth stops the math just doesn’t work. That’s why unfunded liabilities are out of control.
I do not know what BUSH or CLINTON did. But, I know this.
President want USPS to be paid full cost of shipping from those who use it, Amazon including. . That’s all. How will getting full cost of shipping paid will shut down USPS? Last mile shipping cost a lot on per package basis, that is why retailers like Amazon want to use USPS. Trump has already helped USPS by forcing overseas shipper (like those on eBay) to pay the 80% cost of shipping within USA. Earlier the overseas shippers just paid for shipping to US, and the USPS covered the cost of internal shipping. Anyone who loves USPS should say thanks for President for coming forward to protect USPS.
Dude. USPS makes a profit on Amazon shipping. The only reason they are running a loss is prepaying 75 years of pension for current and future to be hired employees. That’s a nonsensical requirement. Any company will run a loss under that requirement

Nowhere did I say that. You are thinking that. The primary cause for usps running a loss is the prepayment issue. They make a profit on amazon. Trump knows this but the truth has never stopped him from riling you an audience or Fox News. The one area they were taking a loss was on delivery of international parcels but that’s getting fixed at the next contract negotiation
