China’s economy has been weakening in the grips of deflation. But central government has been pumping out record amounts of liquidity. That has sent the stocks flying high despite weak fundamentals.

I’d go with social consensus. It’s the same in rural America. Why it would strengthen over the last 20-30 years is a good question. Increasing wealth doesn’t seem to strengthen it anywhere else.

China’s demographic problems are getting really bad. For all the buzz about how worried the west needs to be about China stories like this make me think - maybe not.

“Recently there have been media reports that women in some provinces have received calls from local officials asking about their menstrual cycles and plans to have children”

This sounds like a class action lawsuit in any other developed nation but is led by the government. It’s concerning what length the CPC would go to resolve a problem. In 2000s, Vietnamese news was full of stories of young women being trafficked into China or shady matchmaking business between Chinese men and Vietnamese girls. Recently, I’ve seen more content like this.

That’s very interesting.
I wonder what those women’s impressions are of American men. Likely not grounded and based enough even if they have money. That seems to be what they are looking for.
