Some people love hot and humid.
Some people love cool and dry.
This is good. It means every place have people and don’t have to crowd at a few places.
Btw, few people love extreme heat e.g. deserts and extreme cold e.g. Siberia.
Phoenix is a “temp” desert . Shockingly, the population of Phoenix MSA is twice that of Austin MSA. Austin MSA is small compared to most MSAs in USA… plenty of room for growth in population Usually as population grows, the lot size and built-in of SFHs would get smaller, so get to Austin as early as you can.
Pleasant temperatures most of the year, relatively inexpensive housing, and a steady increase in economic opportunities have drawn people for 80 years, turning the city from a small desert outpost of 65,000 into a sprawling metro area of more than 5 million.
My wife’s Russian friends live in Round Rock, work in tech.
They vacation in California, New Mexico, Florida, and the south Texas coast. They like the scorching hot weather in Austin. But they fell in love with Tahoe today. I took them on a Lake boat ride. Headed now to Yosemite. Then San Francisco.
SF Downtown’s model needs to change. Need more housing and mixed use. Even decades ago when I first came it was dead at night. I remember being very disappointed. It’s a ghost town after workers left their offices at night.
I have since learned the only city in the entire US that has anything close to Hong Kong’s city vibe is NYC. That’s fine. I am now older and have learned to appreciate what this country has to offer. City buzz is certainly not its strong suit.
We drove the portion of Hwy 1 from Golden Gate up to the Sonoma coast where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean yesterday and I keep telling my kids how lucky we are to live in this beautiful state.
USA is about suburban lifestyle. Looking from a cosmopolitan city dweller’s perspective, nothing to do, very boring.
You’ve not traveled enough. There are many much more beautiful places elsewhere. This place is known for techno money making… make money… make money… change the world… keep the world safe… save the planet… save the environment…
Of course I know there are many wonderful places in the world.
The difference is I am living in one.
There are many wonderful women in the world. Key question is whether you married one. Traveling to faraway places to escape from the horrible Texas you are living now is like visiting brothels to escape from your wife.
