The story is that there are too many buyers (state govt, federal govt, and hospitals) chasing too few medical equipment and supplies. There is an unprecedented surge in demand. I cannot tell how real are the reports of these shortages. But, the producers of these supplies and equipment need to ramp up production so that no buyer can return empty. I am not clear how centralizing the purchase will make up for shortages, if they are there.
