Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

https://www.yahoo.com/news/hong-kong-coronavirus-cases-deaths-105634996.html

A major cultural factor behind this is Hong Kong’s experience of the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak, in which 299 people died.

Exactly. Is also low for Taiwan and Singapore.
Taiwan 0.2 deaths per million people
Singapore 0.5 deaths per million people - most didn’t wear masks  Masks are effective?
HK 0.5 deaths per million people

Despite this, the perception in Hong Kong is that its coronavirus figures are too high, with even more anger at a government already under fire amid last year’s protests about the region’s independence from China.

Preconceived judgement regardless of what its government do.

Not everyone wear, but i definitely see some mask even back in feb
have you gone back to singapore last month to check? or just listening to so call president telling ppl not to wear, how many ppl wear on their own???

So? Even in Austin, there are people wearing masks since Feb, may be in Jan.

IMHO, isolate positives is more effective (not saying wearing masks is not effective, wearing masks definitely help). Yesterday Burke mentioned this again. Although she did say previously is culturally not right for America, from her tone in yesterday press conference, she is seriously considering it. Btw, she is also considering recommending wearing masks. *Anyhoo, pretty clear that social distancing, isolating positives and wearing masks help in “flattening the curve”.

Edit: *Realize you said the same thing

not one thing we have to do please
have to do all
social distance
isolation
masks
wash hands
stop spitting on package and giving it to someone
etc…

did you guys see the video of amazon worker spitting on the package deliver to customer caught by ring?

Mask movement is gathering steam.

Official now. CA is ahead of the curve. Florida only started shelter in place today.

The company is working to provide thousands of points of access to improve wifi/internet and Chromebooks for three months free to help with distance learning for kids across the state.

What about Apple? Shouldn’t the richest company in the world give every kid free iPads?

Cruise ships not allowed to disembark in Florida anymore

No… do post…

“The curve” varies in every state. Given that it’s impossible to shut everything down indefinitely starting too early is as bad as starting too late.

“The document requires all ships in U.S. waters to report their numbers of sick and dead on board each day or face civil penalties or criminal prosecution. The Coast Guard will decide if a transfer is absolutely necessary, but the cruise line would be responsible for arranging on-shore transportation and hospital beds.”

Hadn’t really thought about it, but do cruise ships have a morgue???

Germany is the only nation on the list with a GDP higher than CA.

Santa Clara and San Mateo counties have unusually high death rates - I wonder why. Young populations.

Probably not enough tests in. Follow Harriet’s posts.

51 deaths = 8500 infections, not 2000. Vast underreporting.

Our test number has plateaued for a week now, and positive ratio has gone way up. BIG FAIL!

There are tons of videos on youtube about cruise ships. One of those says people die while cruising and they are place in a morgue.

If those deaths are not tested, how do they know death is due to covid-19 and not something else?

According to Debbie Birx is because of stay-at-home orders and extensive testing :stuck_out_tongue:

IoW, purposely fake!

Big debate now. Why is federal helping cruise ships? They registered their HQ elsewhere to save tax. If don’t allow them to dock, why give them money to stay afloat? Not consistent. The reason is they employ many Americans. If this is the case, should also give money to any foreign companies employing many Americans! Nice issue for you to chew.
