Stanford professor says lockdown saved no lives and likely cost some.
This is of course obvious and many here have been saying it for months. But some folks just donât accept anything unless itâs from the mouth of a PhD.

Study: Texas leads the country at coronavirus spread

The virology lab in Wuhan, the city at the heart of the outbreak, was working on three live strains of bat coronavirus, but none of them match the one that has caused the Covid-19 pandemic, its director has said.
Wang Yanyi, the director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, told Chinese state broadcaster CGTN that the closest genetic match to the virus spreading around the world was only 79.8%
Trump has previously said the US would see fewer than 100,000 deaths, a claim in contrast to 12 models the CDC uses. Deborah Birx of the White House coronavirus task force has repeatedly asserted the number of deaths by 1 June will be between 100,000 and 240,000 â if mitigation strategies continue.
Contrary to beliefs of Trump and certain bloggers, Birxâs model is fairly accurate 
The first model said 2.5M. Thatâs what created all the fear to justify SIP. We arenât overwhelming the healthcare system, so why is SIP needed?

I have no opinion on such judgment call decision. SIP, testing and how to quarantine are interrelated. Is up to political leaders to decide the mix. Effectiveness depends on culture and healthcare infrastructure, best leave to political leaders.

You seem to have dropped very important context.
I think everyone agrees wearing masks and social distancing works. You lockdown if you donât think you can get your population to wear masks and social distance. Look at Taiwan, no lockdown, but they wore masks and social distances. Same with Japan. Both beat the virus.
OTOH, we have right wing nut cases led by Trump who made wearing masks into a culture war issue and refuse to socially distance. So how can you beat it?

Time to check on our control group, Sweden. Doesnât seem to be doing too well? No sign of any flattening.
Only 7.3% of people in Stockholm developed antibodies. Long road to the promised land herd immunity. Science is not yet settled on how long such immunity will last. What if it only lasts a year or two, and only against a specific strand?
