Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

Like AZ outside Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff has been of over two months now.

It’s interesting to see what opportunities we have got today. The only question is whether dogs can sniff in time to see if someone is Covid infected…if you’ve been infected for a few days and can infect others during that time, are dogs really that helpful? But maybe for future events…if you can easily and quickly filter out who has Covid and who doesn’t, you can also minimize the risk of infection. That could work!!

Both China and Russia already have vaccines out on tens of thousands of people. Maybe they are unsafe with side effects we are yet to see, but at least they should help validate as proof of concept whether it’s possible to produce a vaccine that can keep “subjects” immune from virus for some time (like a couple of months). I think they have been out long enough to have some of this data.

So if we can prove this assumption that it’s possible to produce a vaccine, the remaining work is just execution. We do what we need to do to get the current vaccine candidates in the pipeline out through proper procedures, then mass produce them and mass inject them, then life can return to some normalcy.

However, it doesn’t look like we get this light-at-end-of-the-tunnel feeling. Which part is missing?

Too much regulations in the name of extreme safety. Best analogy I can think of is mil spec vs commercial spec. Mil spec is of much higher standard, hence higher cost and slower to get done. Russia and China let commercial spec out while USA insists on mil spec. Is commercial spec good enough? Time will tell.

Now all of SF will die per your fear mongering.

I was never against reopening. I am against reckless reopening against advice of experts. Gradual reopening at 25% capacity sounds prudent to me. And it’s one city making that change based on local conditions.

This is the polar opposite of Florida’s blanket statewide reopening at 100% capacity.

The Florida reopening that you blamed for the spike was 25% of capacity. You said it was from that not the riots. So I guess SF will now have a huge spike like Florida did.

California should look upon other states on another important matter. How to keep forest floors clean so that small fires do not spread widely and destroy communities and environment. I cannot believe in last two - three years, the fires have caused more damaged that others natural calamites could not. And the fires were avoidable.

Look at it through the lens of Vitamin D–are the areas North ending up with more deaths than the areas in the South of the US? Vitamin D is protective against bad cases of Covid.

Could be. Arizonans are, on the whole, older and fatter than most East Coasters. Life expectancy on our Indian reservations is about 50 due to alcoholism and diabetes and yet with higher infection rates we get half the death rate.

I hope he recovers quickly. Karma is a B****. Also hope he didn’t give it to anyone else (e.g. Biden at the debate).

No big deal with corona-virus. I remember several public figures who had it. It will become a big message by team Trump weeks before election: “coronavirus doeth no harm”
