Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

Just completed road trip to Bryce/Zion in Utah, people are in extreme denial there re: COVID - so many anti-mask wearers, LOTS of Trump supporters, a lot different than in Bay Area where I feel like most people comply. I felt super risky just using public restrooms on the road, also less people on hiking trails wearing masks than I’ve seen in Tahoe, etc.

I am mostly avoiding trails since by definition they are narrow and you have to cross other people in close quarters. However, in the couple of occasions when I was on a trail, I keep the mask with me but wear it only when close to someone else. Same when walking / running on a sidewalk. I prefer crossing over to other side of the road instead of wearing a mask.

I focus on masks more when using indoor spaces. E.g. use N95 when going inside shops. And won’t even consider going to an indoor restaurant.

yeah I’m not as worried about getting it by walking by someone on a trail, just noticed overall less people wearing masks on trail than here.

I feel in liberal strong holds, masks are more a political statement than actual scientific instrument against COVID. E.g. I see folks wearing a mask while they are driving alone with all windows closed. What’s up with that? Does science say that’ll help you?

I prefer to use mask strictly per my current comprehension of the science behind it and don’t care about making a political statement or the optics of what others may think about me.

I say this because you may come across me on a trail or sidewalk and feel I am not being cautious because I am not wearing a mask. I am fine with it since I have my own conclusions on when to wear a mask and when not to.

TL;DR I don’t treat every trip outside my home the same when it comes to risks of catching COVID and match my mask wearing pattern to my COVID threat perception.

I think the people wearing masks in cars are just confused. They may think masks are some magical charms that ward off the evil virus or something.

Often though I put on my mask when I am around people, indoor or outdoor. Even though I may think it’s not strictly necessary say passing them on a trail because it’s like a common courtesy now. I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable.

The only time I wear mask in car is if I’m still planning to go someplace else and haven’t washed my hands / don’t want to be touching my face to take mask off and put it on again - I think most people would say that is why they may be keeping them on in car…

just wash my hands always upon returning home.

At this point, mental illness is the only explanation. At the first peak, we know hospitals were empty. The MSM was exposed as lying about how busy NYC hospitals were and kinds to get into them. Multiple cities shutdown temporary hospitals that saw zero or very few patients. Covid hospitalizations are below that level, and were being told it’s critical. It’s all total BS designed to scare people just before the election.

Crazy Russians…not a good sign for herd immunity (or vaccines).

There’s been a spike here in Gila Co. The local rag said it was so bad it could go geometric without lockdowns. Come to find out the whole thing is two rest homes and an Indian reservation. It doesn’t take much to spike the averages in a county this size.

Here’s what Europe looks like. Even Germany, touted as an early model for success, is having issues.

Unfortunately the media lies as much as the politicians.
We need official lie detectors

This is super bad. NYT had to add shades darker than red to their case map.

We hit the first 1500 deaths day last week, and are at 2000 deaths day this week. Based on the ramp rate, tomorrow is likely to be the first 200,000 case day. so in ~ 2-3 weeks we will be at 3000 deaths a day. I can’t believe most of the country is taking this in such a casual manner.

Yeah why everybody is not running around like their hair is on fire is really baffling. This is really REALLY bad!

Does anyone here know someone who died from COVID? I had an extended family member in Michigan die of a stroke. The hospital refused him as a patient, since he didn’t have COVID. That happened twice, and he died on his way to a third hospital. You’d think the ambulance would have known where to go.

yes no one directly but family of friends or friends of friends - including a young person

I was away from this forum due to this issue…now returned to USA.

In last 30 days, three of my family members(not USA) died, two with Covid19 and one heart-attack. In addition, Two of my close friends relatives died of Covid19. All are 65 or above with pre-existing diabetes condition, mostly parents of US citizens.

Wherever COVID19 death happened, entire family members supporting also got Covid19, went through hospital treatment and recovering slowly.
