It’s extremely irresponsible for China to cover up its Covid number. It’s just 2019/20 all over again.
If they hadn’t gone with useless lockdowns they wouldn’t have these ridiculous numbers.
Covid. Pay now or pay later. The economic damage from the lockdowns are the interest payments for putting off the inevitable.

I don’t get how they don’t have higher vaccination rates after all of this time. I can literally go get a booster at almost any pharmacy with no appointment. It’s readily available.
Maybe they do. But vaccination doesn’t prevent contagion, just reduces hospitalization. No surprise if these people never had a natural case that they’re susceptible to catching Covid.

PS: If 52% of passengers had Covid - how many needed hospitalization? No one reported… sounds like whatever variant they have is contaigous, but more like a cold than original Covid.
That’s not to say that it wouldn’t make sense to ban flights until it runs through China and their surge calms down. Give it 3 months.
I don’t think China’s vaccines ever went thru the whole litany of trials. Also at the beginning China only let people under the age of 60 to get the vaccines. So people just assume it’s not safe for older people. The vaccination rate among seniors is very low in China.
When China was in complete lockdown there is not that much incentive to get jabbed. But overnight Xi did a 180 and everybody was caught off guard. There is a huge shortage of basic medicine because the drug companies did not know ahead of time to ramp up production. A complete clusterfuck.
Sounds like the IHME (University of Seattle) is predicting a death rate around .0002 (100 x less than the ancestral Covid) in China - I guess waiting paid off. Also sounds like the government is telling people that their tests were negative despite people being symptomatic. Given stories about 30-50% of people on planes from China testing positive, someone’s lying, and I’m guessing it’s the testers in China.

Nobody is lying. Tests are not that reliable. You can take test through out the day, can flip flop negative and positive.
Didn’t you argue against the opposite thing happening in the US to inflate Covid deaths? Hospitals received extra funding if a patient died of Covid.
Are you seriously suggesting US and China operate at a similar level of truthfulness?

Oh there is a second part in that tweet. The Chinese words in there means the nightly TV news, controlled by the CCP of course.
My 76 y/o friend in Singapore who is fully vaccinated with MRNA (2 full + 3 boosters) said he went maskless in 2022, got Covid symptoms many times yet tested negative all the time. So he just stayed at home for a day or two, and recovered ofc. So testing isn’t reliable and MRNA vaccinated doesn’t mean you won’t get sick or infected.
Given the infectiousness of the current strains I don’t think it will take 3 months. Maybe half that.

Different countries different incentives!
US: More people die of Covid, more vaccines sold. More money for a hospital.
China: More people die of Covid, more embarrassment to the country, more lockdowns, detentions, and animals are culled if they end up being the source.

There have been multiple other things going around in 2021 and 2022 that are in fact not Covid. The Covid tests are fairly reliable, but delayed IMO - they don’t turn positive when you’re most contagious, nor negative when you’re done.
What John Campbell said was that people say that they are told that their tests are negative. Very likely the error isn’t the test, but what they’re told. Possibly to avoid lockdowns. It’s China. No surprise.

Every test has a false positive and false negative rate. 50% is WAY outside the normal range of error.
