Cold storage for dead bodies. I don’t even know what small city that is. “Pieces” here means corpses. Google translate is not that good. The original Chinese tweet says this cold storage facility has room for 15k corpses but the first day (12/21) it’s in use 10k corpses came in.

Hate to say it, but I can’t necessarily blame China. The US should simply say no new travellers who’ve been in China in the last month until March 1 and we can call it an impasse. This wave will likely blow over by then.

China is a total disaster. I guess full lockdowns only worn if you do then forever. Eventually, you pay the price for doing them.
It’s not just the clusterfuck happening in China right now. It’s that they are lying through their teeth about how bad it is. National statistics shows only 3 people or so died last week. Looking at the long lines at funeral homes it’s just a sad joke.
Oh and China actually retaliates against South Korea and Japan by not issuing them visas into China.
No herd immunity. Omicron is the sniffles in most places. Most everyone I know got it this year. Vaxed or not they were just under the weather for few days as I was when I got it in March.
Of course, to be fair, when you have a population of 1.4 billion people with many living in dense urban centers anything like this is going to look pretty dramatic even if only a tiny percentage get seriously ill.
That’s why I laugh when people trust their economic data.
China is now reliving the NYC and Italy 2020 hellscape. Crowded out hospitals, running short on meds even the most basic ones, and old folks dropping dead like flies.
But Xi’s campaign is succeeding. Killing a large portion of old pensioners will lighten the load on China’s economy. Some estimate 90% of Chinese already got infected and the peak has come and gone. China’s Q2 economic numbers will look much better, and their stock market has already front run it. It just entered bull market last week.

In fact I expect birth rate to go even lower after this. Chinese people should know now, if they naively didn’t before, that life under Xi rule is fragile and unpredictable. Are women sure they will have any hospital bed and medication when their babies come due? Remember there will be multiple Covid waves. It’s not one and done.
