Sounds like we can eliminate some agencies and fire a bunch of people. Too many agencies involved and too many people involved to move quickly and decisively. They were creating roadblocks instead of enabling solutions. I bet the end outcome will be a new government agency to oversee the existing ones the way homeland security and the consumer finance protection bureau were created. There’s nothing we love more than fixing failed bureaucracy with another agency.
And thus we end up creating a monstrosity more sinister than the one that it replaces.

New Jersey continues to charge ahead at breakneck speed. Keep an eye on the 2nd tier. Michigan could have more cases than CA in a week. What’s up with Massachusetts? Florida is rocketing up as well.

“Only when the officials and cadres dare to gather can we draw the conclusion that China is safe,” Shen said. “I won’t send my child to school before that day.”

Second wave.
There was already a playbook, script, and model on how to handle this handed down from the last admin. But the current admin never wants to listen to anybody else and assumed they were the experts in everything (despite having most of the appointed positions empty and the rest filled with partisans), and you are surprised about them dropping the ball? It’s a failure on the administration’s part for making groups such as the CDC and HHS politicized and filled with lobbyists and christianinsts rather then professionals (as every other admin as done). Don’t blame the organizations, blame the admin and the leaders they put in place
Did you read the article? It doesn’t matter who the admin is. We have the same repeated problems.
We handled swine flu and ebola just fine…

I don’t think a democrat president would do better than a republican one. Bay Area counties declared shelter in place earlier than many other regions, however, the hardest hit places are also led by democrats. Politician are mostly lawyers and businessmen, who don’t medical background to have a good intuition in this field. During the time even when CDC is failing its jobs, our destiny has already been sealed.
Hopefully by now, most of the people have realized how serious it is.

Even if they were professionals in the field but were now politicians, they would behave differently than they would as a strict medical professional.

Probably a separate thread is needed where people unhappy with the current administration can register their dissatisfaction and prepare a to-do list for current and future administrations at the state and federal levels.
Personally, I see bloated governments as the part of the problem, and do not expect much from them since the first goal of any government agency is to self-preserve. The best is to devolve the power to individuals but I see reverse happening as governors across the country are using this opportunity to assert and normalize more power to government over citizenry.

CA has props. Do you think they are effective?
Props are just a way to make a public decision. What matters is what that decision is . So, if prop is passed that allows a person to steal from neighbor when one is hungry will not work in long run. One must keep private decisions separate from public decisions with residual powers to individuals.
Give me an example of a private decision.
For props to be effective, they’d need proper naming and description on the ballot.
It’s just amazing everyone wants to blame the administration yet every western democracy is on the same curve. Countries that beat the curve used cell phones to contact trace citizens. Good luck with that massive violation of rights in a western democracy.
