DNC: future of the Democratic Party

What does “second prize” mean? Did she mean to say that she won the “second place”?

If I were Harvard admissions officer, I would give a full rise based on merit to this Latina who won the second “prize” on the the Intel International Science and Engieering Fair

It’s mostly geeks and nerds who won those prize. It’s rare for a politician to win those awards.

She won in 2007. Any proof?

“When she submitted her high-school microbiology project in 2007 and won second place at Intel’s science and engineering fair, she automatically won the naming rights to an asteroid found by LINEAR.”

She may have won in NY state’s science fair, but I’m having trouble finding her project on the ISEF website. Only proof I really have is her asteriod.

Sorry-the link I sent may be something else. Science Talent Search, not the Science Fair.

Could she just post her microbiology paper? I’m not finding her 2nd place anywhere.

An interesting article on Chinese immigrant Trump voters. If you don’t want rent control, buy in Millbrae and Cupertino.

Can they come out to defeat Prop 10 with their webchat power?

Prop 10 is much more important than sanctuary state or city

I just checked my landlord wechat group. There’s more talk about the Sunset supervisor election and school board election. One person did bring up Prop 10.

The group likes Jessica Ho to replace Tang.

You need to broadcast the grave effect of Prop 10:

  1. Housing freeze
  2. Economic freeze
  3. Rent freeze even when tenant vacated

Get them interested in defeating Prop 10. If Prop 10 passes, school board election won’t matter much

For all you liberals that like socialism. Here is why it won’t work in a large heterogeneous country.
Basically Americans don’t like rules and conformity.

“Norwegian here. While I’m happy to have been born where I was, I certainly have no feeling of living in some kind of earthly paradise or “utopia”, even apart from climatic issues and dark winters.

The high standard of living comes with a staggering cost level and very high taxes, compared to most of the world. Foreigners visiting Norway will often be shocked to discover how much even basic everyday commodities cost. Alcohol and tobacco come with very heavy “sin taxes.”

There is also a certain level of societal “conformity.” Your neighbor may feel very much entitled to comment on your lifestyle, and generally be opinionated about it, if you stray too far from the common norm. This is different from some other countries where people care very little about how their neighbors live, as long as they are not directly bothered in any way.

This Scandinavian “conformity” is probably (even) more acutely felt in Sweden than in Norway, though. But in some cases at least, people who excel may be regarded as proud and obnoxious rather than admirable. If you somehow do manage to get rich, a tacky display of your wealth may be widely disapproved of; rather you should make an effort to demonstrate that you are still a humble person and one of the people. (Not that tacky displays of wealth are in any way unheard of, even in this country.”

To understand the difference between American Capitalism and Norway watch Lilyhammer with Steve Van Zandt as a Mafia guy having fun at the expense of hapless socialists. Bonus—Bruce Springsteen as a contract killer.

Who cares what the old geezers want? Sorry but boomers and the silents are dying off day by day. Millennnials is already the biggest voting block. If they want to be more like Europe then guess what we will be more like Europe.

Americans are not that god damn special. We still need roads schools jobs and healthcare.

We will never be like Europe. In fact the way things are going we will probably be more like Mexico. I hear most business people down there hate their new socialist President.

Kamala Harris and Cortez can make America Mexico again :sunglasses:

For now, many Mexicans are less worried about bad relations with the United States than the possibility that Mr. López Obrador could lead the country back to the failed statist policies of the 1970s, or worse, the catastrophic “21st-century socialism” of Venezuela. Some of his aides are said to be close to the Venezuelan and Cuban governments, but as the election has approached, Mr. López Obrador has tacked toward the center. Supporters point to his relatively pragmatic tenure as Mexico City mayor in the early 2000s.

Where California goes so goes the nation

Canadians are homogeneous are polite and follow rules . Americans are not.

Canada has a higher immigrant ratio than US. Lots more Asians. A big province speaks French unlike the others. Not sure why Canada is more homogenous.

Maybe because they are small population country and are more polite. Some places in the southern US are still fighting the Civil War. We have everything from the KKK to BLM. Canada has no clue about the complexity of the US. Californians outnumber Canadians.

But some reason a large number of Canadians live in the US in winter. Oh yeah their weather is horrible.
