Shopify has branded itself as a DTC-friendly counterpart to giants like Magento and Adobe, but as itâs grown up with the once-smaller businesses itâs helped launch, it has had difficulties keeping up with demand. As a result, some brands are migrating off of the platform to competitors â others are cobbling together bespoke solutions to make up for Shopifyâs pitfalls.
Shopifyâs DTC competitors â Magento, WooCommerce and Squarespace
â[Shopify] breaks about once a month, in small ways,â they said. âIt releases changes to the API without notice.â Others nodded in agreement.
Need to move their HQ to SV Canadian SWEs are shitty, not shit-hot like those in SV.
âOnce youâre doing $10 million to $20 million online and once you have a certain amount of complexity, it becomes very difficult to scale on Shopify,â they said.
@marcus335 Are you there to solve the scale issue?
As a result, the agency has had a few clients migrate over to Magento, which is more complicated to implement but gives the businesses more developer freedoms.
@caiguycaiguy You might want to consider selling your SHOP holdings and buy ADBE!
âAll of the integrations Shopify has are much easier to get off the ground,â said the e-commerce head. âItâs not [customized to] what weâre looking for.â
Cloud-based apps is too rigid! and canât scale!
Hm. Thatâs interesting on the scale issues. Iâll have to research more. The whole premise is they can scale. Scaling is a tech stack issue.
Was considering backing up the truck. This article gives me the pause. If it canât scale and is not as configurable as SAP, its potential is limited. Please share your research
If youâre free, please research WDAY too. WDAY is able to scale. Appears to be configurable and has an integration cloud for customization. Frankly donât know whether it is as configurable as SAP.
Shopify is for mom and pop stores. You donât need scale for those selling 30 SKUâs. For bigger brands they need tons of customizations done by teams of consultants. Itâs not something you do it by yourself on Shopify.
They run on MySQL and are Ruby on Rails. MySQL isnât ideal. My guess is thatâs creating the scalability issues. I wonder what the roadmap to change that is. This is where it gets into the world is going NoSQL which I donât fully understand. Iâm learning a little, since weâre starting a project to migrate from SQL to Mongo.
Asking from another perspective, is the leadership at SHOP capable of implementing a SHOP Pro version that uses the same data store?
Guess need to rewrite using C/C++. IIRC FB redeveloped its platform from Java/Python to C/C++. And invented Cassandra for data store.
You can play with Shopify and see if you can make a store that has the same features as amazon. You canât. Itâs not really a database thing. There is a limit to the inherent combinatorial complexity of making everything configurable, compatible and at the same time just by dragging and dropping some visual components.
@manch Did you mess around with WDAY? Founder wants to one day challenge SAP in the ERP space. Do the founders have the necessary leadership?
I own some WDAY shares. No I didnât play with the software itself. If I remember right @RealEstatebull is expert in the ERP field? I just figure I better have some stakes in each category leader.
SHOP does have different products. I wonder if the small business product maxes out, and then people need to upgrade.
They have some huge businesses as clients, so clearly that offering scales.
Avoid all cloud and software stocks that are not in FAANMG.
@Jil,
Refer to chart below, how should we label those prices and SHOP is in what degree/wave?
I am able to get individual wave, I.e, single up and down, but not the others.
Today, my friend called me to analyze RUN. I am able see likely bottom as the stocks tanked waiting for results. I told him good to go.
Results are beyond expectations and share buyback announced.
But, I do not know what will happen after a month or 3 month or one year !
Easy to spot the individual waves when they have completed, is hard to see what wave pattern would evolve. My best guess is:
Zigzag, ABC - One more down wave to complete C or
Zigzag, WXY - One more up wave and then down wave to complete Y
I have no idea what the inventor Elliott or WS guru Frost might interpret.
So, if youâre a long term buy n hold investor, you donât have to do anything. However, if youâre a swing/ position trader, you have to do something
Facebook Pay supports credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal. Payments are processed in partnership with companies like PayPal and Stripe. âFacebook Pay is built on existing financial infrastructure and partnerships,â Facebook says.
Pay system on pay system? Pro of using FP instead of PYPL and Stripe directly?
