Forget Mission Impossible, I'M Waiting For Crazy, Rich Asians!

You and me both pal (“but my client pays for my chicken wings…”)

Tyler Cowen on the movie:

While traveling in Eurasia, I read so many articles about how finally “there was an Asian movie for Asians,” or something like that, and none of them rang true. Upon seeing the movie I was impressed, though it was not what I was expecting. It is mostly a dystopia cloaked as a homage (just to be clear, personally I love Singapore, and its people, and have been numerous times). The underlying message seems to be “Singaporeans are mostly greedy, superficial, uncultured, too brand-conscious, and somewhat unpleasant, unless redeemed by contact with America or Chinese-Americans.” With only a slightly different framing, this film could have been dismissed as unacceptably racist. And where are those Malays anyway?

What are you ranting and raving about? My personal Comcast performance experience is quite good. The only complaint I have is, it is somewhat like throwing money away when I don’t watch that much tv at all. But then again, I get rent from the inlaws that cover my entire mortgage practically so I really can’t complain now, can I??? :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Just another stupid person thinking ONE movie will answer all of the questions for all Asians. Idiot…

Oh, hitting 100M probably this weekend if you care…

Ken Kwan is laughing all the way to the bank!!!

He owes me royalty because he’s using the Asian ethnicity to make his dough. That ethnicity belongs to all of us.

For me, his first movie was more than enough payment…

I just hope this opens some doors that’s all. I am sure someone will be doing the story of our parents, the coming to America story from China. Title: Gold Mountain Bet on it.

Starring wuqijun as the hardworking coolie who came from China with nothing but eventually overcome exploitation by white imperialists, made millions, and kicked the imperialist butt

Kwan is a fugitive on the run. :running_man:

Uh, nothing a few Singapore dollars can’t fix…

And besides, while this could be a downer for Ken at the moment, frankly anyone in his/her right mind would trade places. The guy is just writing major checks for himself and he is the toast of the town.

A story somewhat along those lines will most likely happen for sure. We will see folks who land in chinatown and scratch and claw their way to some success. Whether it be finally buying a home in the avenues or their kids making it big. Damn, there won’t be a dry eye in the house…

Shocker!!!

It’s a curse. They’re so tiny. How are they going to handle so many tourists?

Chatted with my Singaporean coworker; the guy refuses to watch this movie. Shocker.

I’d like to tag along… I wouldn’t mind seeing it again and being a third wheel…

Well played, @BAJacket, well played…:wink::wink::wink:

Why aren’t you going with your wife? Or is it because she doesn’t like cliche movies like me?

She pulled an @sfdragonboy wife move and went to visit her parents and friends for a few weeks. She’s already seen it…you and I are like the ONLY Asians that haven’t seen it
