I’ve only seen my friend tearing pieces of naan off and used it to scoop things up to eat. Never seen people use hands to scoop up rice in real life.

My hands were hygienic but the food wasn’t. At least not to me. Indians tell me that local people can eat stuff without getting sick, but foreigners will get sick if they eat that. It will take time for your body to adjust to the condition of the locals.
I’ve noticed the spiciness of a country’s food is often inversely proportional to the standards of hygiene. Embalming the food in lots of spice kills the bacteria. Most of the time.
I agree. Also the food is cooked at high temperature which is a double whammy for the bacteria. Those spices tend to upset stomachs until one gets used to them. 
Too salty for my taste. It’s all the rage now. I think it’s ok
