The best looking little dragon girl ever.
You don’t like 陳玉蓮?
Compared to her? No way.
神鵰俠侶 is my least favorite 金庸 story. Cringe every time I hear ‘姑姑’ and ‘過兒’ on TV.
You are just weird…
All 金庸 novels make me cringe now. Although I grew up reading them.
Oh man… F lol.
I’m actually going to watch it! I just got invited…
Rotten tomatoes is a replica of Yelp.
Must be the gospel of truth then.
Ok, review time of The Movie (at least for me)…
Objectively, I have to give it a 3-4 stars (out of 5). Not perfect by any means, some scenes are just too over the top (comedic) for my appeal (even though for a romance comedy) but if one goes in knowing this is a fluffy movie it is an enjoyable 2 hours. I read that the Singaporian government or people were concerned about this movie and its portrayal of the city-state nation. Uh, no worries. Let’s just say, travel agencies will be hammered from people wanting to go to Singapore from now on (or even more so). Absolutely beautiful. A couple of the spots shown, amazing. My Big Sis already saw the movie too and has already pinged my wifey that she wants to join us for our next visit home to Malaysia/Singapore. If Singapore does not blow up even more from this movie, I don’t know what will do it.
Ok, 8:50 showing… sold out. Impressive, not expecting that (and we got there early). Had to wait until 9:30 showing. Not sold out, but impressive nevertheless. You know how the theaters have the few rows way up front that are really too close to enjoy the movie for those poor people who make it in late? Well, the rest of the theater is full to the last seat and I would say half of those 4 front rows were filled.
Ok, demographics of the attendees. As expected, mostly Asian (Chinese). Groups of young gals and guys post college age. A smattering of Caucasians or non Asians. Some older Chinese with their adultish kids.
For me, forget the main character gal in the movie or the lead guy. Gemma Chan is The One. OMG, she might break out into a major movie star. Very sultry and sexy and of course has the guaranteed Cindy Crawford mole. Her character husband is a famous Singaporian star, my wifey’s favorite. Good looking guy with a nice lean body (no I am not gay).
Oh, I have to mention Michelle Yeoh. Awesome, as ever. Just like the man, Chow Yun Fat, a tad too late to the Hollywood party or otherwise you would blow up big time. People not familiar with her work are not going to believe that this actress was a kung fu action movie star once.
I may have to pick up the book to really get into it.
Just like how John Wick interest made Hollywood have to do #2 and now #3, it will be the same with this potential franchise.
I can see women (non Asian) really loving this movie for its love story aspects. It is Pretty Woman all over but in Singapore. Word of mouth should carry this movie along nicely I suspect. I know I will tell folks who are interested that, yeah, it is worth seeing.
Bottom line, does this Blu-ray hit my collection which is very specific and small to my interests? Probably. It will be a cute movie to put on a huge tv when I have my holiday family parties at the new house.
Anybody tried this Singaporean snack before? I am not a snack person but this looks yummy:
Can chicken feet also be a snack? It was a culture shock for me when i camt to us for the first time.
My biggest cultural shock was when I need to eat rice with my hand (Indian household). Was greasy. And I ended up sick (diarrhea).
It was probably because of spice i loooove indian food.
I love it as long as there’s utensils
I don’t think it was the spice. It was the hygiene.
Yup. It is definiely weird. No excuse for eating with hand, unless you pay 300$ at a michelin restaurant.
Seriously though, no reason to not use utensils. But it is their home, i guess, they can eat however they please.
They forced me to use my hand. They said that was the proper etiquette. I knew it was going to be bad…
Did it taste good at least?
