If you read that Maxine Williams article carefully, she actually has a 2 month initiative at FB specifically to TRAIN underrepresented groups to get acquainted with the company. So, this policy is actually no different from Google.

Something is amiss here. How can Google be shortchanging women and underpaying them while they are fully behind promoting diversity and silencing opposition voices (Damore). Either regulators/investigators are full of rubbish or Google is being very hypocritical/manipulative. Can’t be both.

So, if your job is to paint widgets red and you want to write an essay on work conditions that technically is not doing your job duties and you can and should be fired. You are paid to work, nothing more, nothing less…

Your definition of “work related” is so Industrial Age. In the Internet age, employees are expected to contribute in more dimensions. You need to finish your tasks, contribute to the organizations, contribute to the employee community, represent your employer as an brand ambassador. If you merely complete your tasks, you can not be promoted. What James does is to work on organizational issues and contribute to the employee community, that’s a must if you want to be promoted

At least CNN has not labled James Damore as alt-right. You need facts to make accusations. Getting your voice out at CNN does not mean you are a lefitist. Getting your ideas published in Cuba does not mean you’re a communist. Media is just a way to get your message out. For a no-name engineer who was just fired, any media would be a good way to get his voice heard. Any offer from any media would be a life saving outlet.
Left media is warming up to James Damore, seems that both left and right are courting him. This could be a golden opportunity for left leaning media to attract more moderate readership. Gender discussion is not as dangerous as race. Gender is a topic more people can discuss more freely without fearing too much. Most people have 50% female and 50% male parent, it’s easy for people to accept gender related discussions. It’s not a really sensitive and explosive topic. It’s a safe topic for CNN to be less leftist on gender issues
