The downside is that you’re violating the civil liberties of people for no benefit. The AR platform is the Ford F150 of firearms in the US which is why the left goes after it. And the number of killings committed with them is incredibly small. You’re more likely to be killed by lightening in the US than in a mass shooting committed with an assault weapon as defined in the last ban.
You post a graph that shows no cause and effect re: assault weapons and mass shootings - not even correlation as most of these shootings are done with handguns - and then you ask for causal studies?
I repeat, you are debating with narcissist, no empathy individuals, the scum of earth.
You can bring them any data, they will bring their ill and stupid ideas that everything is cool in this country. They don’t provide any idea about how to help to stop the massacres of our kids at schools, and people at workplaces, which happens every day.
They don’t have a skin in the game, who would? Their lives are miserable and are trying to project that onto our lives.
That data was in the link I posted. Assault rifles are rarely used in any crime in the US - mass shooting or otherwise.
What was your being “quite sure” based on?
You should start by banning soda. All chemicals, no nutrition whatsoever. Oh wait, NYC tried to do that by limiting serving size and people complained…
“Mass shootings that involved the use of high-capacity magazines resulted in more than twice as many fatalities and 14 times as many injuries on average compared to those that did not.”
“In at least one-third of mass shootings, the shooter was legally prohibited from possessing firearms at the time of the shooting.”
" Background checks on all firearm sales to prevent prohibited people from buying guns"
This already exists.
" Red Flag Laws that allow family members and law enforcement to seek the temporary removal of guns from individuals who have exhibited recent dangerous behavior"
Those already exist in many states including California.
Again, those already exist in many states including California. Meanwhile, California voters decided some levels of domestic violence and non-violent crimes.
I love when gun control advocates know so little about it that they propose laws that already exist.
“Clearly, the question has to be, why does Dayton have to be the 250th shooting in America?” Mayor Whaley said. “Two hundred and fifty this year. El Paso was 249, Dayton was 250.”
We need to be proposing solutions, fixing loopholes in existing solutions and adopt a test and learn mindset until we find what works for us. Continuously debating about what the perfect solution can be will not do any good.
We already know two couples that divorced after the husband went on anti-depressants. The change in behavior and affection was highly noticable… I think that both parties should be warned about such changes before a spouse goes on such meds.
There was also an inmate who was trying to warn people–manufacturers, doctors–that being on a particular drug was what led to his mental state and him killing people.
I wish I could remember the name of the documentary. It was on big pharma. It talked about that exact thing. They’ll use their money and influence to have autopsy results sealed to hide the prescription drug usage. America consumes over 80% of those drugs. Take away guns and they’ll just use bombs, moving trucks, and other methods. If we are serious about it, then we need to get to the root cause.
