High crime areas in California

Well, on the one hand I’m glad they’re not growing out where I can smell them. And on the other hand, I’m glad no one will be smoking them where I can smell them either. Yay!

People are growing pot everywhere. A neighbor in Tahoe has plants peaking over the fence. It takes dedication to grow in an alpine climate. I smelled the skunkiness and knew what it was right away

Defunding the cops and making them fearful of offending offenders has been a disaster.

Speaking of “Defunding the police”…

Well, it’s Chicago, not CA, but… Mandate vaccines, fire your own police force over it, and then ask suburban police officers to help you out… Makes you go “Hmmmmmmm…”

the “fixes” are still years away

At the beginning of the pandemic, someone told me that their husband had received not 1, but 4, notices that people had submitted his SSN to file for unemployment…

The EDD system is a nightmare.

My cousin legitimately filed for unemployment at the beginning of pandemic. She worked at restaurant and they had to substantially reduce staff. The claim took 3-4 months to approve since they were so backlogged. After a few months of smooth collecting, her claim was locked again because they thought it was fraud. It took another 4/5 months before that was resolved!

She doesn’t speak English so I was helping her out and it was stressful even for me. Calling was impossible and the online messaging system went nowhere… Luckily she lived with family so she was able to survive without income for a bit…

Used to not be safe to stop in parts of Oakland. Now you can’t even drive through.
