Housing was the world’s best investment over the last 150 years

Plenty of engineers do this. you cant escape the allure of RE if you are in India. You have some challenges that were discussed above. Its not easy to invest in India, finding a deal takes time, with a clean title. Some times a distant cousin comes and claims that he owns some piece of it without any proof.

India is indeed like China years ago then. Some of my relatives got filthy rich by selling their land in Shenzhen.

It’s hard to get financing in India?

NADA, none for land, For condos yes. Hard money is the way to go or better pay up all of it.

Would it be profitable to buy land then sell with seller financing? You might be able to lock in a really good return. I’m not sure how contract law works there and foreclosing to take back the land if they stop making payments.

Seems like you need to do some crowdfunding.

Never heard of such a thing in India, as a seller I wouldn’t want to get into it. Remember, I tell the city X price and purchase price is sometimes 5X than what I pay tax on. Go figure.
Law is strong, implementation is weak. Courts will take a long time, if you end up going that route.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. All the indian engineers in the valley do want to invest in India but they dont have a means of doing this without risking it all.

Definitely think about it. Ping me too if you got something going.

The big issue in India is that you have to be local and have the right contacts to get anything done. The legal system is slow, full of holes, and is seldom a recourse. My mom has been trying to get a couple of tenants out for 2 years now so that she can sell her house and downsize and it’s been going nowhere…

But if someone can figure out how to get India into the modern ages, I am up to invest.

Geez, sounds like Malaysia…

You don’t need no stinking legal system. You just need some of @RealEstatebull’s goons.
