Black people are killed “at a higher rate” because they are much more violent and much more likely to disobey an officer.
Black males makes up 7% of the population and account for 40% of the murders. It is the author of this piece - and not Trump - who is engaging in gross misdirection.
We do that every time. The problem is the media rushes to judgement - encouraging violence and mayhem - before anything has been root caused or even investigated. They flood the airwaves with misleading clips of incidents which include no context. Then, when the investigation concludes as it often does that the officer acted appropriately we get yet more riots.
Not my problem of course. There will be no riots in Strawberry, Pine or Payson.
BTW - I’m getting mailings from local realtors (not out of town scammers) inquiring about whether I would consider selling. They have more buyers than homes to sell.
Not saying if he’s innocent or not. That’s for the court to decide. You can insist he is.
My point is, even if he’s accused of crimes, even if he’s proven guilty afterwards, there is no reasonable justification for shooting him at the back SEVEN times. We have due process. We don’t execute people on the street.
There’s no excuse for disobeying police orders either. The whole situation was easily avoidable. It’s pretty horrifying if we as a society tell police officers to take even more risk to lower the risk for criminals. 0.0013% Amazingly, despite all the alleged wrong doing, independent investigations by feds, etc charges are filed against police officers less than 1% of the time. They don’t even make it past the grand jury which is a pretty low bar compared to reasonable doubt for conviction. People still site Freddie Gray as police misconduct where the prosecutor was disbarred for misconduct. She couldn’t even make a case while cheating the system.
Let’s face it. No one here cares at all when police are killed. How much outrage was there when a cop died at the hands of someone let out early thanks to prop 47? Zero. Yet you all jump on the bandwagon when a criminal dies.
Go ahead and pat yourselves on the back for classifying domestic abuse as non-violent. Great job standing up for women. I forget the only woman’s right that matters is the right to abortion. That’s what’s really important. Who cares if women are victims of domestic abuse. Let those criminals out of prison.
It’s the same with gun control. No one cares the US had a bigger decrease in homicide rate than Australia. No one cares Australia had an increase in sexual assault crimes while they declined in America. Who cares if women won’t be able to own a gun to protect themselves from criminals you won’t keep in prison. You might as well tell women sexual assault is the price they pay for being born a woman, and they just have to deal with it.
Manch, for some reason you take this personally and think that you might be shot 7 times. You don’t live in the criminal world. 99% of us don’t. But I know a lot of cops and a few criminals. They live in a different world. Criminals know they will treated harshly for resisting arrest. Most deserve it. Cops never know how far an individual criminal will go… How much drugs taken or how desperate he is. They have to assume the worst to protect themselves.
George Floyd was high on drugs and yet the officer involved could lose everything just trying to do his job.
Yes, I may be shot 7 times. Even if I were not, it’s immoral.
Most issues are not entirely black and white. There is a balance to be had between exposing police officers to danger and not endangering citizens’ lives with excessive force. Either extreme is bad. Shooting people at the back SEVEN times sounds to any reasonable person to be at the extreme.
Unfortunately we live in desperate times. Must be nice to have such moral purity. But a vast majority of criminals are brought up with no respect for authority and will suffer greatly for it. The rest of us have no problems with police. The so called victims championed by the radical left have no moral authority and have often been in prison. The police don’t have the luxury of deciding who needs kid gloves and who will resist violently.
Elt, I’m sorry, it’s not that black and white. I suspect every one of us has committed a crime and many probably do so on a daily basis. Ever rolled a stop sign or driven 66 in a 65? What about the time your headlight went out on the way back from dinner with a friend? These may seem trivial, but unless you’re wrapped up in a bubble living entirely through the internet you’ve likely had a few interactions with the police. As a middle-aged white male my interactions have always been civil but I’ve watched these guys treat blacks males extremely differently, and I’m not talking trouble makers – Ivy League educated straight as an arrow buttoned up black men getting hassled and intimidated for absolutely no reason. Now this was 20 years ago and I suspect things have gotten better, but dirty cops are as American as baseball and apple pie. One of the reasons I think there has been an improvement is that every altercation now gets filmed with a cell phone and distributed all over the internet. 20 years ago they would have just planted the knife, said Jacob attacked them and called it a day.
What is needed here is some empathy. These men are not the ‘other’ – they are human beings and with a different role of the dice that could be you or your kin.
Is a reason why I don’t believe in freedom of speech/ expression/ press. Since Americans believe in this principle, have to bear the consequence of this belief
I get such solicits all the time, doesn’t mean can fetch good prices
What the likes of CNN and NBC do is equivalent to yelling “fire” in a crowded theatre - something even the Supreme Court has said isn’t covered by the First Amendment.
And even if it were - you can’t hold Trump to a standard of not saying things he has a right to say but are unwise to say unless the media is held to the same standard - which it isn’t.
Multiple videos have been put up indicating that seven is NOT necessarily excessive. I have plenty more I could link to but what would be the point? Seems folks have made up their mind.
Vaguely recall reading about this but forget the exact context The reason why I don’t believe in First Amendment is it requires the speaker (expresser?) to make a PoV based on facts (not accusations without evidence) or merely expressing the facts without prejudice. Not many have that level of critical thinking and analysis, and willing to do the necessary DD to confirm the facts.
More Blacks homicides offenders proportionally than Whites. I suppose they meant convicted ones. Can you think of any possible explanations other than Blacks as a race is inherently more violent? Why are they much more likely to disobey police?
I’d love to see Dems don’t get complacent and think the race is locked tight. So I’d encourage my liberal friends to continue to freak out and treat this as national emergency.
Intellectually though the 2020 race is not even close to 2016. People who keep citing 2016 are suffering from recency bias.
