Impact of election on market

Not people. States, right? 51% states can’t ignore the other 49% states.

In a pure democracy it would be 51% of people even if they all live in just a handful of states.
The only way to keep things from flying apart is have a system where it’s all but impossible to impose your will based on population alone. That is accomplised through the two senators per state arrangement, through the electoral college and through devolving a great amount of authority to the individual states. You see this in other stable republics. Germany must make accommodation to the state of Bavaria or risk dissolution, same with Canada and Quebec. Even in China rural areas are given latitude to BS their numbers; they just can’t openly oppose Beijing’s mandates.

You predict correctly!

Trump tells representatives to stop negotiating stimulus bill until after election

Buy now?

If the prediction is wrong, it does not matter if poll was scientific.

Predictive power is lost once it is made known to pollers  before the election. Is more for entertainment.

The Left loves strong and authoritarian governments. That is why anyone who opposes big government is basically is an enemy of the left.

Trump is trying to make a distinction that the real economy is a function of main street. However, to some, the rising stock market is an economy. If the stock market drops 50% tomorrow but also takes out all the companies that depend upon bailout and stimulus, it will be good for the common person, though stockholders in such a company will not be happy.

What companies require bailout and stimulus? Trump is making a gambit: Vote for me and you get HUGE stimulus after election. Otherwise, no stimulus for many months!!! Handover would be rough won’t be smooth.

The companies that do not have product that can be sold in the open market without subsidy or government purchase. All most all green energy companies cannot sell their product without government support.

Perhaps all the staff will pull every “B” key from each computer?

Republic vs democracy just means ours is not a direct democracy. That means we elect representatives who then make policy. Direct democracy is something like the ballot system of California. Uninformed public directly decide on policies they don’t really understand.

There will be more dumb shit. A narcissist losing power but refuses to go down gracefully for the good of the country. Expect more fireworks.

Yet another poll showing Trump’s numbers getting destroyed by his Covid antics.

The nationwide poll reveals that instead of a sympathy factor for Trump, there’s been a stunning drop in the Republican president’s poll numbers since he revealed his diagnosis last Friday.

In two days of polling before Trump got COVID, the president trailed Biden by just a 46-41% margin. In the three days of polling after the coronavirus diagnosis, Biden held a 55-34% lead. That means Biden’s lead grew by a whopping 16 points from pre-COVID to post-COVID.

Keep doing what you are doing Mr President. I like it.

You don’t have it right. The republic is made up of fifty states. The states vote for the President not the voters directly. There is more to it than not just being a direct democracy vote. Plus we have constitution to stop the majority from stomping on the minority

There is a very limited set of minority rights we are talking about. The majority can’t just lock up the minority who disagree Putin style. It can’t confiscate minority’s properties etc. All are enshrined in the Constitution.

Fundamentally this country is a democratic one. We choose our representatives via elections.

By the way we should probably expect DC to become it’s own state if Dems flip the senate. House has already passed.

What do you think a wealth tax is or higher tax rates for higher incomes? Money is property. People absolutely vote to take property from others.

Supreme Court has already considered the legality of income tax many times over the years. Also note that the Constitution explicitly granted Congress the power to tax.

The Democrats want DC as a state because it is Democratic. It was supposed to be a neutral place.
There are too many small states already. Put the Capitol in Vegas. Make DC part of Maryland

What do people think the likelihood of a wealth tax will be if Democrats win and what form do people think it will take?

Do people think Democrats will remove the SALT caps if they gain power?

I think removing or increasing the threshold for the SALT cap is a guarantee. To me, the best way for Democrats to increase tax is the VAT. Makes tax for corporations much more complicated but I think it has a lot of flexibility and a very large potential revenue stream for government to pay back the debts to the fed! :money_mouth_face:
