Those fires of ours are because of mis-management of wildlands, especially in CA, not global warming.
It is understood that there will be mismanagement. but water crises are real and lack of wet weather creating dusty conditions. i keep windows open. so much dust inside floating around with multiple airpurifiers.
In other international news a European court just put the Kibosh on the Swiss fining beggars. Never give up your sovereignty to some international court!
To maintain access to larger market and scientific potential. smaller countries have to voluntarily sacrifice some sovereignty to larger organization. Swiss by itself cannot maintain the standard of living. things are getting complex to built. so we need larger wealth and population of Asia to built it. who else beside Germany can bargain with it.
The Swiss need to approve a mandatory 5000 Franc fine for anyone caught giving money to a beggar (I came up with the number based on SF’s $5000 fine for anyone caught feeding coyotes in Golden Gate park). Anyone who photographs someone giving money to a beggar and turns the evidence over to police, resulting in a conviction, gets a portion of the fine.

Swiss thought they are an island like Singapore surrounded by like minded powers whose values are rapidly changing to changing population structure.
do you see the crowds on Delta flight waiting in lines?.they will be seating on cramped seating and will wait for luggage. who want to disagree fast trains? where you can take breath of fresh air at each station outdoor along the way.
At this rate increase it will be closer to 20,000 cargo trains. The Train size is increasing more than the number trains. Trains are increasing at 31% rate but containers are increasig at 40% rate.
you cannot increase the size of truck or airplane or ship. they are all fixed.
Sky and ocean have more capacity than fixed tracks.
And a new airport or a new ship-port do not require much cost as compared to laying a new railway line.
Ships and Airplanes take much more manpower to build, maintain and operate. Ships are so large now (Suez Canal) if they get stuck or break down. very expensive and time consuming to repair.
Commercial container ship building is now concentrated in few countries. Railway has much more diverse supply chain.
For railway you dont need big port cities with tall crane operators for loading and unloading.
Airport are bankrupt. Cost of safety and Runway maintainiance costs are huge due to repeated pointed loads.
Remember this famous story.
why you think Boeing took $25B loans in one year despite 70% imported components? and that cost will keep increasing much faster than inflation rate. so end result is that train tickets will get much more expensive.

Ships are even older than 19th century. Commercial airline practically the same cruising speed as Boeing 707 introduced late 50s. where is progress? domestic airlines hardly has any place for first class ride. people fly like cattle. no wonder crazy things happening.
Ship, Plane even even electric car are all speed constraint. Elon Musk Tesla if speed higher than 80mph. its cruising range is less than half.
Trains have made tremendous progress in terms of carrying load capacity and speed of passenger transportation and reliability of long range transportation.(think of overhauls and manpower used per passenger or per tonne).
World scientific and monetary resources are moving into developing Railway. It is not going on same Scale into airplanes and ships. So we all know the end result. Railway is transforming the world. new cities are being built around it.
Except for a few exceptions passenger railways are heavily subsidized. Almost all commuter railways/subways/metros/suburban railways are subsidized.
The sooner the passengers railway shut down, the sooner society can focus on some sensible means of transportation. But, so long has personal transportation remain the object of hate by left, I do not see much progress.

Choice is clear. either make subsidies for Aircrafts/Airlines/Airports/road construction/Tire(synthetic rubber) . or put subsidies on Railway that is far more efficient and electrified transport.
Plus commuter /metro railway is not the same as high speed and long distance railway system but it helps in developing in keeping industrial chain for efficient allocation of skilled labors.
Not only Europeans standards for vehicles safey tough but Europe has far less vehicle death per capita.
you are some how associating leftism in US with EU/Russia/China. where Railway is the consensus.
Subsidies take money from one group of people and give it to others. That kind of progress and leftist ideals only make rich (and connected ) richer.

I am not sure why you only point subsidies of Railway. when every thing is subsidy.
Do you think without money printing there will be Shale oil/Gas and hence electricity at these prices now?
How about subsidies of Solar panel installation. Subsidies to Aircraft/Airlines/Airports. Just the security cost of Airports is now sky high. hundreds of police require to run an airport.
how about subsidies of semiconductor plants?
Railway is engineering consensus of EU and we cannot fly without European engineering. and this thing will become obvious with time. as current aircraft maintenance sky rocket and making new aircraft supply chains shift to other industries.
This one line tweet will tell you either cooperate as partner or be prepared. for Germanic world.
All subsidies are bad. Solar panel installation is lefts dream of running everything on solar. Converting Solar into useful energy is a failed technology that humans are trying to harness for last thousands of years. We do not receive enough solar energy per sq feet basis.
I am not sure why you point out Solar and Railways for subsidies when practically every business is depended on subsidy.
when there are so many other energy sources that has long term negative impact just starting.
