Literally and Seriously

Also should I take joy that many conservatives still choose to live in CA or even SF because honestly we offer the best opportunities? I can’t imagine how you guys go thru a day in SF? :smiling_imp:

Keep in mind that when you are referencing those conservatives, they are older and have been in SF for a long time. They didn’t change, the city changed…

Conservatives in SF? News to me. Unless there are many conservatives in the Democratic Party

The SF “conservatives” will be labeled as radical liberals in other states.

For SF, the worst risk is extreme leftist. We have more than half million there

You mean when Diane Feinstein was mayor SF was a conservative town? I can’t imagine SF being conservative in the 60s and 70s. Time to page @Elt1

SF has been voting for Repulican president in those years. Is the Republican not conservative?

Reagan was pro-immigrant, gave out amnesty and supported gun control. I would have voted for Reagan.

Time changes. In Reagan’s time, half of the world is still under communism. Labor flow is restricted by the Cold War. In Trump’s time, we have the whole world population to pick and choose as immigrants. There is no need for illegal immigrants any more

Nothing is good or bad on its own. We have to assess based on reality. Flexibility is the key to prosper. A rigid ideology is the road to ruin

I wish you the same.

An independent has no ideology fixation, by definition

One reason for Trump’s popularity is his independence from any ideology. His style is pragmatic and get things done. That’s similar to China’s Deng, but Trump is more flexible and free than Deng.

Deng is part of the ultra leftist communism organization, though his thought is pragmatic, and his solution is to pretend that he’s faithful to his party’s ideology and the actual decisions do not conform to that ideology.

Bill Clinton is also pretty pragmatic. He pretended to be a democrat but his real thought is more independent than his liberal peers.

Even Reagan is also little more pragmatic than people realize

SF has always been liberal…Even its Republican mayors were liberal…Yes before radicals took over the Democratic party in the 60s there were Republican liberals and conservative Democrats…Of course now everyone is polarized and unless you have a radical socialist bent you can’t get elected dog catcher in SF…I was a democrat for most of my life…Never a fan of Feinstein, who was a country club Republican in reality…I liked the old line Dems like Joe Alioto, Wille Brown and yes Bill Clinton.

I am sure the general statement holds through (even in SF): the more money you have the more conservative you tend to be. Why are all those techies with so much money stockpiling arms and building compounds? Cuz they’re liberal and want to share their wealth with everyone? Please…

Just more hysteria and misinformation. Nothing of value to see.

This explains why immigration isn’t a meaningful difference maker and also robs those countries of the people needed to turn them around.

I am not sure about that, at least not in Silicon Valley. My model of liberalism is that of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. It’s more like data-driven rationalism with a heart.

I said it couple times. When I was younger I used to be a libertarian slash conservative. Now that I have more money and older I am actually becoming more liberal. You see the Silicon Valley liberals are not the union democrat type and are very pro-market. A lot of tech types like me are anti rent control and pro building.

Buffet is a joke but a genius. He says people like him should pay more taxes. That way everyone loves him. However, he takes full advantage of every available deduction to lower his taxes. He could not claim deductions and pay more in taxes if he really believed people like him should pay more taxes. The fact he won’t do it unless forced shows where his real beliefs are. Saying it creates a lot of positive PR for him though.

I have a lot of respect for Bill Gates, but Warren Buffett has a heart? Oh please…

Bill gates is a nice person. He is smart, successful and modest. However, does he understand your struggles? Does he understand every citizen’s struggle, wishes, needs and dreams?

It’s more important to understand the little guys, to listen to the little guys. Silicon Valley billionaires do not represent Americans. Even if they have a really nice heart, their life experience is different from many people in the country.

I do not blindly listen to some famous people. Bill Gates was against Brexit and threatened British about Brexit consequences, so what?

You’re just weird, in a good way. Human nature does not work that way. The richer one gets, the cheaper one becomes. That is fact.

“We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.”

“When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.”

Agree. USA could easily issue work permits (not H1Bs) to get cheap labor to do those lower skill jobs that American don’t want to do. Duration doesn’t have to be longer, six months to 3 years would suffice.
