Definitely no beef, not sure how often for pork. Looking at some black and white photos of myself in the teens, practically skin covering a skeleton.

I get the sense that you want to test me or catch me in a lie. No need to. Please keep in mind that some of us here hide behind fake names and that can be a double edged sword. That can mean people will be BSing all day long or if you are like me, will give it to you straight (no water) since I do have that mask to hide behind. I generally never lie to anyone who asks me a direct question and if I did misrepresent something it may have just been a pure mistake on my part.

This is my theory but I have found compadres who feel the same way about life. When you lose a parent fairly early in life, you tend to understand the mystery, cruelty and finality of life and then you react accordingly by enjoying each day as it comes and definitely don’t look too far ahead. You definitely don’t take BS from anyone. One of my best friends who lives and owns in PA lost his dad too at an early age. When we both learned that we shared that, it was not a coincidence that we hit it off the first time we met and we will be solid brothers to the very end.

Did I tell you that once I was going from town to town selling sodas and beers? I grew up with this family who had that business.

So, one day we ended up at the very bottom of my country, at the Pacific ocean, a small kind of hamlet little, very little town. It was in the morning, there was this lady in the entrance of the town, many roads went by so she had a pretty good business. The lady served food for several people, like a restaurant without a building. She had black beans, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, chicken, and some kind of fish marinated with eggs, you know, they dip the thing into the eggs when they are liquid and put it on a pan and fry it.

I loved that fish. I repeated it 3 times. Then we started to pay. “OK, you ate black beans and eggs, you ate this and that” you owe me this much. When she asked me what I ate, I told her black beans and fish. She said, what fish?

She forgot to warn me that the “fish” was a delicacy only for one of her best clients whom never showed up. It was one of those big snakes, like a boa. :joy: Who cares! It was delicious!:laughing:

Come on, Asians will eat anything practically that moves. I recall my parents buying live turtles to make some healthy or medicinal soup as a kid. Not a big deal since everyone eats snails (French) or escargot but that is something I picked up liking from my folks. Now, these are grown sea snails and not the garden variety ones of yesteryear. Even though I am Chinese, one thing I won’t eat at dim sum places is chicken feet. I know some people like it and I know the historic origins of it (people were poor and since businesses were giving them away free or something like that, chinese people gladly took it in and voila there you have a common dish now).

That’s also the history of BBQ in the Americas. For instance, pork ribs were the part of the pig that the landed gentry didn’t mess with. So, they gave them to their slaves and hired help when the pigs were butchered. Who in turn, applied the technique of barbacoa that they had brought with them from the West Indies. Slow, low temperature roasting tough cuts of meat to make them tender and lots of spices to either add flavor to blandness or more likely, to overpower the off flavor of decay and rot.

Today, we consider BBQ pork ribs to be an American delicacy. I’ll bet those slaves of old are laughing their arses off at us. :slight_smile:

According to some authoritative publications, human brains become bigger and smarter because we eat cooked food. Cooked is easier and shorter to digest, hence smaller stomach and extra energy (protein if you like or glucose) is diverted to develop our brain.

If you can live longer than a few thousand years. Well, I would deem you’re 2000 years old if you keep quoting me out of implied context.

I believe my Filipino friends told me that they make the dog eat rice for a few days to cleanse its stomach, then, they time the last meal so when they open its stomach the rice is fresh, like a delicacy…hold on, let me go to the bathroom…:sweat_smile:

But Fujita was growing tired of the importing business, and saw an opportunity to make some serious cash after finding out about the success of the McDonald’s franchise in the United States. In fact, he made off with a 25% stake in McDonald’s Japan that was valued at $674 million. He even received a retirement bonus of $24 million. Perhaps by then his hair and skin became a bit lighter from all of the burgers and fries. Does it make your hair blonde and increase your height, as the McDonald’s Japan founder originally claimed?
