She mentioned something
I believe you pretend you didn’t hear it.
I pay more attention to what people do, not what people tell other people do.
You moved from SG to US, not the other way around. That must mean US is better in some way for you.
While my wife is absolutely the beauty and not the beast, she knows I have game. My beautiful half asian/white niece ditched her boyfriend back at the hotel to hang out with her uncle in NY til 4am, having great conversation over beer and chinese food. I got more than a few looks…
Haha, I see you really didn’t hear it. Selective listening ![]()
This American vs SG passport thing got me thinking. It’s a different calculus depending on whether you have children or not.
For me as a parent, I don’t see a better country to put down my roots than America. It is geographically big, economically strong with lots of different industries, and culturally diverse and accepting of different peoples. It also has gone through multiple periods of “trials by fire” and came out stronger than ever. Those episodes include the Civil War, multiple world wars, and many expansions of civil and voting rights.
Singapore on the other hand is like an unproven startup. History is short and geographically only a tiny island. Its current ruler is the son of its founding father. Chinese has a saying that wealth doesn’t go past the 3rd generation. So at the very least I would wait to see how its 3rd gen leaders will do. If anything happens in SG you got nowhere to hide. The entire island takes only 30 min to go from one end to the other by car.
So @hanera made a good choice ditching Singapore and moving to America. Congrats.
Well, @hanera has the option to go back. It is about having options, Fearless Leader. Clearly, the US has digressed in the past five years. We actually had a violent mob (and not a small one) attack our Capital of all things. That is progress??? NO!!!
And who’s president today? Is it the king of the violent mob?
America was tested and we passed the test.
Having options is fine. But I was just pointing out that we America is the bluest of the blue chips. We have been tested through out out history and we came through every time. Singapore? Hasn’t been tested at all. If shit hits the fan you are not gonna hide it out on the other side of a small island.
It makes sense for Singaporeans have America passport for safety. Zero sense for Americans to ditch American citizenship for a passport of a tiny island.
.
FIFY
Hong Kong people’s tragedy is that we never got the option of independence. We got sold out from one colonizer to another, less civilized one.
But Singapore is an authoritarian government dressed up as a democracy to fool the naive people. Judging from the SG people here they don’t really like democracy either. Its big test will be when one day a bad ruler got power and refused to go. SG doesn’t have the institutions to rein him in.
And that one day will come. Sooner or later. SG hasn’t been tested yet.
Dude, the point is, aren’t we well beyond taking tests??? And especially of that magnitude?
That attitude, that America is the best and only the best, is being tested. How’s that? Why is it that the some of the richest and smartest people are leaving the US? They. Have. Options. Now.
Like who? After they made it in America right? Which brings the question, why can’t these smart people get to that level of success in their home countries?
At the same time we have tons and tons of the smartest people in the world trying to come into America.
I am not actually saying America is the best in the world. I am just saying it makes no sense to give up American citizenship for a SG one. If you can have both sure go for it.
People are leaving the US for greener pastures…
“By the thousands”. And moving to Europe? Said a London based firm?

If you can’t see that the US is worse today than 5 years ago… I honestly can’t help you.
Also, his America, is the 7x7 island ![]()
Again, watch what a man does for himself, instead of what he tells others to do.
If SG is so good why leave for America? If SG has a better future why put money in American market instead of SG market? If China is going to rule the world why not invest in Chinese market instead?
Right. Because SG and China suck. Follow the money. Talk is cheap.
Can’t help a person who has lost his memory.
Not sure what all this is about…
First of all, clearly a lot of the China rich have already left their homeland and yes they have gone to other places like Singapore. Sure, some will still come to US but it is not like before.
And if the rest is about me, I am leaving for SE Asia. My wife who generally loves being here is slowly seeing my view and is more open about going back home. Generally speaking my moves have been timely and dead on. I left Oaktown when I sensed it was turning into a deadend city for RE. Smartest move ever. Took my profit and went to San Bruno and properties here are selling very well.
Uh, the reason why not more money is flooding Singapore is the government itself stopping everyone from investing!!! Hello??? Sure, the US is exempt but most countries including China have to face that horrendous additional stamp duty of what 60%? A penalty like that is needed to stem the huge demand from the outside world!!!

He woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Quite often, he blogs without basing on facts that he already knew. He bases on his unhappiness that “Hong Kong is destroyed by CCP”… though I am not very sure about that… AFAIK, British created a system where the uber rich in Hong Kong monopolize most of the land in Hong Kong and HK government is not able to forcefully take back those lands for national building nor for housing needs. The system locks in the society structure, is difficult for a lower tier to jump to a higher social ladder. British has intentionally made the system incompatible with mainland China, planting a time bomb… let them fight amongst themselves.
