Very few Chinese people understand the importance of protests in promoting social change. They all see protests as “trouble making”, and would instead wait patiently for government to take pity on them and “grant” them rights that were theirs to begin with. You go on Chinese social media and take a look at Chinese “protests”. They aren’t like Western style protests. Instead the Chinese people all kneel down in front of the officials and begged.
Before black slaves were emancipated, there were wide spread protests. Same with women’s voting rights, civil rights, on and on. They all started with protests on streets, with political pressure working from the streets to inside the legislature. Protests are integral part of a well-functioning democracy. That’s why they are a protected form of speech in America.
Nothing to do with Singapore but since we touched on all these other countries I thought it would be interesting to put it here.
Below is why America is much greater than Europe, or any other country on earth. We look forward to the future. No, we don’t just look. We invent the damn future. While Europe is just an old museum and people look backward to their old glory days.
You are an American dude spending America-made money. I am not talking about you. It’s the ethnic Chinese people born and raised in Malaysia that are getting systematically discriminated. Malaysia has crazy laws that give preferential treatment to Malays. Every company must hire a certain government-set percentage of Malays. Schools must accept certain percentage of Malays. And even house prices are lower for Malays.
You don’t need to care about all this. But it doesn’t take away the fact that Malaysia sucks.
Singapore is NOT a democracy, with kangaroo courts in which the government always wins. I thought it’s common knowledge but apparently not. They dress it up well to fool the naive folks I guess.
Here’s a grandson of SG founding father Lee Kuan Yew. He’s now a professor at Harvard. The wise ones always moved to free countries like the USA.

OMG, do you really think I never heard all this before? My wife is Chinese Malaysian remember??? Guess how she handled the discrimination??? That’s right, she comes to America, worked her pretty little ass off and now makes 6 figures!!! With a Fing Malaysia equivalent high school diploma!!! Now, she goes back there with all her LV purses overflowing with US dollars and can thumb her nose at the Malays.
Yes, it is a sad situation in Malaysia but that just means the Chinese have to cross one or more borders to make the moola. Where have we heard that story before?
This SG TikTok guy is just a condom. He has no decision power. He’s chosen as CEO only because he’s theoretically not a Chinese citizen. But Congress is not having any of his BS.
I don’t get the whole Tik Tok business. Purely political. They do nothing with your personal information that Google and Facebook don’t do. They exert no more influence over your information stream or voting choices than domestic ap providers. The whole thing is a joke.
