I thought opening up NCAS is a defensive move vs governments’ plan to propose a universal connector. By enlisting other automobile makers into NCAS, EM is forcing governments to adopt NCAS as the universal connector. That way, TSLA won’t have to spend $B to retrofit NCAS into the governments’ proposed universal connector.
Insurance rates for Tesla are over three times the price on similar type ICE cars. Pretty much wipes out the fuel savings costs.

I called my Farmers agent. What are you paying? My ICE cars are $800/year. I was quoted around $3000/y for a 2019 X
Fully load dual motor with the ludicrous mode. Priced cheap at $65k… about half the purchase cost in 2019. Insurance is obviously a small cost compared to the depreciation cost of over $15,000/y. People buy these toys for prestige not economic reasons.
