Today Market

Top stocks on Robinhood brokerage get crushed as market violently reverses

.

I sensed a lot of glee going on here. Not sure this is the big one everyone is clamoring for.

My Gut feeling:
If today circuit breaker is hit, then big issue. Just shy of DOW circuit breaker !
If VIX is coming down tomorrow onwards, market is supposed to go back.
It is supposed stop and to be temporary until next peak (then fall must be permanent), but we never know !

Whee!

Whoa that’s bigger than I was hoping for. Wasn’t ready for it. It looks like this was setup to take advantage of other people. What’s the reason for the big run up and gaps? What’s the reason for the gap down?

No one knows why things happened or not happened in the market. I have no clue. People seem to be freaking out on the second corona wave? But why today but not last week is anyone’s guess.

My twitter feed has a ton of people cheering on the drawdown. Maybe people are not cool with day traders and 20 year olds making easy money? Seems to me there is too much excitement and not enough fear.

The storyline plays out very well. Mass fear, promising solution, ever present hand, social unrest, fear dissipates, mass gatherings, and then more fear?

Casual day traders won’t make money in the long run. They think they are smart, clever, or whatever story they tell themselves. It’s going to disappear faster than it appeared. Disciplined day traders will.

Weren’t you preaching a lack of greed? There were many signs of greed, the easiest to identify is short term thinking and thinking you are smart. It’s better to assume you don’t know enough.

Greed has gone up quite a lot since March low. But current level doesn’t scream irrational exuberance to me. Sure there are a few day traders getting a lot of media attention. But look at this latest retail investor survey.

More bearish people than bullish.

It’s a hedge fund temper tantrum. It’s hard to justify 2/20 fees when a bunch of noobs on Robinhood are beating your returns. The SPY 200-day held. It’ll be interesting if we go below it in the next couple of days. The VIX going above 40 makes me want to sell some puts. Maybe I’ll get to buy OKTA this time.

Did the Stock Market Just Top? Let’s Look at the Charts

If you use this logic, then you will get answer.

Market behaves UPs and DOWNs on its own (with Market makers will).

News/Media is attaching some interesting story (right or wrong) for that UPs or Downs. Next day, everything changes, but the story is forgotten soon !

Even with 7T FED is feeding, market brings down.
Why? They make money with UPs and Downs like this.
They have to bring down the market suddenly when no one expects it.

If someone guess right, they make money which market makers won’t give chance !

This rug pull is too dramatic, I don’t believe it, was expecting more of a slow bleed. Need 4-5 more of these.

I was expecting a slow drain as well. I’ll probably follow marcus’s approach with selling puts - but need another 1000/2000 point drop before things get interesting.

Remember when all the hedge fund losers were complaining people only buy index ETFs and so there would not be any price discovery? When was that? Six months ago? Now they are bitching about Reddit millennials betting on individual names? What is that if not price discovery?

They brought up the market very fast from may 13th (S&P 2820) to peak (S&P 3193) almost 13%, now pulling down heavily so that they make big amount.

My friend and I were watching potential fall indicator yesterday, esp VIX, and MM left it at unchanged yesterday, no clue till market end. But market makers (MMs/HFTs) have access to buy SPX puts even after market and midnight and early morning before the pre-market duration ! MMs left no clue how market turns today ! It is Blitzkrieg !

The best strategy is to ignore MM antics and just hodl rock solid stocks like AAPLs. If still in accumulation mode, take advantage of sell off to buy buy buy. Anyhoo, doesn’t that low :flushed:

Please lend me $10 M
