Today Market

Bernie beats Trump in polls and the Democrats are too disorganized to do anything in their best interests. They may just get dragged into it. Bloomberg is way to low key to inspire people the way Bernie can.
The coronavirus will probably be history by November. But if it drags down the stock market the Trump will be vulnerable.

Trump is well known, flaws and all. Bernie is still an unknown to most Americans who don’t breathe politics. Wait until they are bombarded by TV ads showcasing Bernie’s socialism. I don’t think Bernie can beat Trump. But I have been wrong before. What do I know?

Did you BTFD today? Or 2mrw is STFR day?

I still think we rest 200-day. I do nothing with my core stock positions. Moving averages aren’t aligned so I watch the fun.

I hope Bloomberg goes nuclear on Bernie. Bernie is a lying commie bastard with anti American tendencies. But he is a populist like Trump and will attract a lot of stupid voters

Yup. Populism is stupid whether it’s from the left or the right.

Populism is not democracy? What is the difference?

Wrong word maybe. Both are demagogues

Unions will be totally against Bernie. There will be an ad made of Bernie saying he’d take away Union healthcare and make them have Medicare for all. Around 70-80% of people with private healthcare think it’s good. A key selling point to Obamacare was when he started saying if you like your healthcare plan, then you can keep it. That turned out to be a blatant lie, but people wanted to be able to keep their current plan.

Personally, I’d also make ads about Canada’s wait times for care vs US wait times. I’d make ads about how the U.K. is rationing care refusing to treat smokers or obese people. I’d make ads about the baby cases that went viral where the UK government said the family had to let their baby die. I’d make ads of all the Medicare denied claims which happens 2x more than private insurance. I’d make Medicare for all so toxic that no one would ever vote for it.

Democracy has strong safeguards against tyranny of the majority. Minority interests are carefully protected. Populism is tyranny by the majority.

Here is Bernie’s socialist paradise

Nothing is more tyranny by the majority than voting to increase taxes on the rich and using the money for free stuff for yourself.

Higher tax by itself I don’t see it as tyranny. After all decisions must still be made by the majority. We have to see whether the tax burden is overwhelming. Warren’s wealth tax I think is over the board. That I’d say is tyranny of the majority.

Another telltale sign of a populist is how they attack ā€œelitesā€. For the left it’s the rich billionaires and for the right it’s the cultural elites on the coasts.

America will lose it’s SOUL if it votes for Bernie Sanders.

That America that fought for CAPITALISM against the soviets for 4 decades and showed it’s the correct way such that even the Chinese Communist Party became Communist in name only. With higher government control of the Economy + more bureaucracy America will become less free than today.

Looking at the age distribution of the fatalities it might just keep SS and Medicare solvent a few more years if it gets here. So there’s that.

Well - not democracy. A republic, which is what the US is supposed to be.
If we do get a Dem I honestly hope it will be Sanders. Bloomberg is a nutso control freak. The man makes Trump look humble. There’s nothing Bloomberg doesn’t want the government to control. And once rights are lost it is almost impossible to get them back. Bad tax policy can be reversed. And in any case Sanders isn’t likely to be nearly as effective. During his 16 years in congress he got three bills passed. Two named post offices. If we have to have a Democrat the last thing I want is an effective one.

I hear all these comments that Sanders won’t be effective. Is this coming because of the nytimes article which said the same? I somehow don’t know if that’s true. If Bernie is a shrewd player he will get many AOCs behind him when elected by ā€œdealā€ making.

Futures are trying to make a comeback. I am not sure that’s the end of the panic but after today we are closer to the end (BS talk I know).

No one should vote for a tax rate on others that they wouldn’t be willing to pay too.

The fact that the richest man is the son of a Cuban immigrant and grew up pretty poor shows that capitalism is alive and well. There’s tons of opportunities for those that choose to take advantage. Those that take advantage shouldn’t be penalized with higher tax rates to give money to those that didn’t.

For people who feel differently, they can donate their own money to causes they want to support. They don’t need to force others to contribute to their causes.
