You are making subjective statement. He could have/He should have types that cannot even be objectively verified. I am not saying stock market will or will not tank after 3 months. I have no crystal ball. I am just critiquing what you wrote above.
Iām still mostly equity.
In a real SHTF scenario thereās no way cash is safer than stocks. Thereās nothing behind the cash other than the economic output of the country issuing it. So itās the same as stocks in that regard. If you research economic collapses over the last 100 years you were almost always better off holding stocks than cash. Everything from Germany to Spain to Italy to Brazil to Mexico.
Documented in newspapers? Gimee a break - newspapers have been ādocumentingā things about Trump for the last three years, most of which have been proven false. As for whether spreading panic earlier would have helped the situation - I guess weāll see. We have China, South Korea, Italy and the rest of Europe plus England to use as yardsticks (I donāt count places like Iran).
I continue to maintain that school closures are an incredibly stupid move. Not evidence based or data driven. Likely to to do far more damage than good.
And to add to what @acre just said. You cannot stop economy indefinitely through lock downs and shut downs. Lack of economy will kill more people than this virus could.
itās a tough one. Closing schools will create separated cells that will reduce transmission via children to different groups. But closing schools may mean reduce in medical staff and also possibly open new routes for contamination as caregivers take their kids out and mix with other people. No easy answer
This is one another version of flu virus, mutated from some old version. Human immune system has to fight and save life. Even if there is a medicine, it does the same action of flu shot to activate human immune system to fight against.
Key differences are we have a vaccine for many strains of Flu and it has been with us for a while. So there is a fair bit of herd immunity and the ability to protect segments of our population. Also on top of this being a new strain, itās a lot more lethal (more then 10x), more virulent (spreads more easily) and each infected person is infectious for a longer period of time. our medical system is already strained under seasonal flu, it cannot take on something that is more contagious and deadly and which has no immunity within the population
Corona has not yet proved itself as a killer virus. Only 5000 people out of 7 Billion?
For those with good immunity, it might not be more than just a common cold.
If it spread easier, then millions would have it. If millions have it without showing symptoms, then the estimates of how lethal it is are way off. You canāt argue both it spreads easier and is more lethal.
Looking at it another way have any co-workers of the first employees to test positive at Amazon, Facebook, google, or Microsoft gotten it? It takes 14 days before showing symptoms, so those people were going to work and coming into contact with co-workers for 2 weeks without knowing it. The fact no one in their office got it shows itās either far less contagious then the flu.
15-60M get the flu each year, and thatās with vaccines. This thing would already be in the millions if it was as contagious as the flu especially, since it takes 14 days for people to know they have it. The first US case was almost 2 months ago. It was on 01/19.
This is TARP all over again. I bet the market would circuit breaker down if it was open. If a deal doesnāt get done this weekend, then Monday will be interesting.
except for the 1st, all are controversial and politically motivated. These have nothing to do with fighting corona virus, which seem like cannot kill even an ant.
You need #2 so that lower income and hourly workers will call in sick and get the help they need vs infecting more people
You need #3 so that people who lose their jobs can still take care of their families. Also #3 is the best way to help the economy as all that money will be spent
You need #4 as schools are closing. Free and subsidized school lunches is the only regular meal that many lower income kids get.
You need #5 so that the hospitals dont get overwhelmed with the increased case load.
Look at the other countries that have contained his successfully - Singapore, South Korea, China, etc. They all passed the aboveā¦
There are already existing programs to take care of the situation you listed. The way it looks to me, corona-virus scare is going the āclimate changeā way. Scare the heck out of people so that they are willing to be taxed till the last penny.
The hypocrisy is going out of hand. Apple will shut all stores outside china. Workers will be paid though. At this rate, we will have entire world down and shut in a matters of week. Nice to see how this war between a manufactured crisis and the genuine economy plays out in next few weeks and month. The results could be bad for those who are seeking this opportunity with their shut every one motive because world may actually learn to live without them. Just as apple does not exist in lives of many, these scare mongers might exclude themselves out of the economic and social system. Self-cleansing in progress?
Thereās now some panic in urban (Democrat) parts of AZ with school closings and restrictions on gatherings but not in the rural areas. Things are running as usual. Iāll be doing voter registration outside a True Value tomorrow; it will be a good opportunity to gauge the mood.
