Today's Market 12/27-1/02

I think they are selling OTM calls but more calls they they have shares. If they own 1,000 shares, then they are selling OTM calls for 4,000-5,000 shares or 40-50 option contracts. That’s how/why they are net short the market.

This is the exact issue that we may not know why they sell it? Everyday, they dynamically buy/sell different stocks at different times.

A tsunami of shares will get unlocked on Jan 7.

Today is the last day for tax loss harvesting.

AMC has come to attractive lowest $2.10 of the decade.

Company May end up bankrupt or go up to $5 when Covid resolved.

Any risk taking speculative buyers?

I did consider buying some bitcoin as a diversification but can’t remember the reason for not doing so. Probably inertia? Too many financial instruments? I prefer simpler asset allocation, stocks and RE rather than stocks, RE, bonds, currency, collectibles, precious metals and crypto - I find too complicated for my simple brain. For stocks, only AAPL and index funds*.

I realize index funds are passe’ The in-thing is index ETFs, liquid and cheaper to own. ARK is ETFs instead of a hedge fund.

I don’t love bitcoin. I do love Blockchain and learned Ethereum for a bit to understand it more. I also think that the world is going to use crypto based currencies by 2040. but to me, Bitcoin seems like a Ponzi scheme, 2% of holders own like 90% of Bitcoin. So I see the speculation, but I am not sure what it “really” means, and prefer to put my money in things I understand. I am an old fuddy duddy too, and miss things as well, so I could be totally wrong.

I haven’t read this book, but based on summaries, I think the tl:dr is - digital currencies are going to change the world but Bitcoin won’t play a meaningful role.

One global crypto or like now many national crypto? China for sure will be using crypto. USA?

Edited my comment - I personally think it will be different currencies.

I know the US Treasury is looking into it (as per a podcast I was listening to) but not sure how fast they will move given our dysfunction

Doesn’t matter if it’s got long-term potential or not. The chart says bullish all the way. I’ve been buying up GBTC, bitcoin, ethereum for a few months now but just don’t have enough. I think bitcoin is pretty close to a pullback before it makes another run to 45k+. Another one I went all-in on my RH account (sold all ethereum) a few days ago is DOGE (people believe this is somehow related to Tesla vis Elon). Already doubled but I think it will 2x/3x again soon. I don’t believe in any of the coins, to be honest, just riding the wave as people flocking to what they believe is an alternative liquid asset investment. I like gold and silver better for the longer term.

Very true. I need to learn how to chart! Doge is already down. It is such a terrible coin…

Remember when Bitcoin hit $20k. It crashed and so did the stock market right after. There is stupid money out there. The party will end badly. Jan 2018 stocks dropped 10% and Bitcoin ended up at $3k later.
