AAPL and Apple

Try this.

  • Power off the phone.
  • Use a wire to get into charging socket and try to clean it out. There might “lint” like dirt in there, which is creating problems with charging.

I cleaned it out. It’s a little loose. I have to angle the charging cord to the left for it to work.

Bloggers who didn’t run a company before think they are visionary?

VRVitaly insists that ENPH is better than AAPL… data show otherwise…

Kris feels AMZN and GOOG would return higher going forward… perhaps, so far, ytd return are higher.

Both VRVitaly and Kris think Apple is 5-10 years behind in AI implementation. Hmm… frankly, I have no idea, they think this because Apple didn’t jump on the AI hype by talking about AI incessantly in public conferences and events. With a SVP on AI, Apple can’t be sleeping, most likely Apple doesn’t want to announce any half-baked products. Frankly, I don’t know whether this is a good strategy, given that it is in vogue to release alpha version WIP… current generation seems ok with half-baked products.

Being the top dog means many companies want to copy and some aspire to take over your position…

In 2030…
Market cap of AAPL, TSLA, NVDA and MSFT $10T each.
Market cap of AMZN, GOOG, META and NFLX $5T each.
Total market cap of FANGMANT = $60T.
Current market cap of S&P = $37T

Title says AAPL vs TSLA, content is comparing AAPL vs GOOG
VRVitaly and Kris insist that Google is grossly undervalued
IMHO, both can’t even do proper DD comparison :man_shrugging:
Selectively use income quarterly report instead of yearly or TTM report.
And conveniently forget about FCF.

Apple and Google have roughly similar Gross Profit but Google’s operating expense is much higher than Apple’s. Google management is inefficient. Kris defended this by saying Google spends billions in moonshots which what a growth company should do, conveniently forget that Apple also spent billions in Project Titan (& many secret projects that we are not aware of because Apple doesn’t like to talk about them until they have something to show).

Apple has much higher FCF.

Conclusion: Google is not grossly undervalued.

IMHO, Google is not well managed. Otherwise, should have similar market cap as AAPL.

If any google moonshot paid off, then they’d deserve a premium valuation for that R&D spend. They haven’t. Instead, they have a track record of acquiring companies and destroying the value. Nest and Motorola both destroyed value.

TSLA got premium valuation even though their moonshots are not paid off. Comparing to TSLA, GOOG is undervalued

Heisenberg is being sarcastic… I think he lost money shorting AAPL or angry with himself for not owning any AAPLs.

What will excite customers? Battery life is sufficiently long, camera is sufficiently good, chips are sufficiently fast, display is sufficiently clear, memory is sufficiently large, … Excluding those customers that need to upgrade because of various reasons (e.g. iPhone too old, bragging that they have the latest,…), are there any compelling features that can excite a customer owning a 1-2 years old iPhone to upgrade? Are USB-C port and periscope camera sufficiently exciting? Any must-have new iOS features that won’t run on older iPhones?

News that timed to force AAPL share price down.

Beijing has for years restricted government officials at some agencies from using iPhones for work, but the order has now been widened, the people said. The latest order also signals an intensified effort by Beijing to ensure its rules are strictly enforced.

China’s restriction mirrors similar bans in the U.S. against Huawei Technologies as well as against officials using Chinese-owned TikTok, with both superpowers concerned about data leaks amid heightened emphasis on national security and deteriorating relations.

The first list of “gatekeepers” under the Digital Markets Act, which takes effect from Wednesday, includes six of the world’s biggest tech companies: US-based Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta, alongside China’s ByteDance, which owns TikTok.

Each will have to share data with rivals and make their services interoperable with competitors, among other obligations, or face fines that could run into billions of dollars, Brussels announced on Wednesday after months of preparation. The new law is designed to foster greater competition in the tech sector in Europe.

Apple is forced to join the generative AI hype…

Media attacking AAPL for three consecutive days.

  1. Huawei releases a powerful phone
  2. China bans government officials from using iPhones
  3. China extends ban to state-owned companies

5 more days to Sep 12 Apple event. Will Apple event an sell the news or pop up day?

Have been saying this for years. Apple’s exposure to China is a huge risk. Looks like it’s finally time.

Tesla will also get banned. Only question is when.

.

Read up the past 30 years about Apple and China, and you won’t make above comment.

Even if true, EM and TSLA investors had already made tons. China made EM the richest man (may not be now because lower share price, too lazy to check, should be top 3). Ban TSLA, EM may become top 10 (instead of top 3) richest and TSLA investors from $100 millionaire to $50 millionaire. Investment in China is very lucrative. Have it not, TSLA would probably already bankrupt and those TSLA multi-millionaires would still be 9-5 W2 employees.

F… logic
Initial stage, NW = $100k.
Invested in China, NW = $100 million.
A ban, NW = $90 million. F… shouldn’t have invested in China.

Read more Chinese history. China often says it has 5000 years of history. Why limit to only 30?

Mao himself read Zizhi Tongjian 資治通鑑 17 times. It’s his all time favorite book.

Zizhi Tongjian is a pioneering reference work in Chinese historiography, published in 1084 AD during the Northern Song dynasty in the form of a chronicle recording Chinese history from 403 BC to 959 AD, covering 16 dynasties and spanning almost 1400 years.

Why? Because China hasn’t changed much from its imperial past. The same dynamics is still at work. The same actors are on stage, just with different titles to their names. Instead of Emperor it’s now called President. Mao himself learned the art of attaining and maintaining power from that ancient text.

.

Start from Apple has Foxconn factory in China. This is when “China” exposure is risky started.

It wasn’t clear how widely the orders were being distributed, but similar messages were communicated to employees at some central government regulators.

China’s State Council Information Office, the National Civil Service Administration and Apple didn’t respond to requests for comment.

I am not sure this is a real issue or a FUD by WS.

Times have changed, and reasonable man changes with it. That’s why study a longer period of Chinese history is helpful. You will likely conclude the 40 years of Deng’s reform is coming to an end, and what will come next.

Like I said, the fundamental dynamics haven’t changed much at all since ancient Imperial time.

Xi will tighten control over its people more and more as economy tanks. He’s afraid they may get the wrong ideas. All China made cellphones have spywares preinstalled. Apple’s doesn’t, at least not yet. Xi will want all Chinese people use spyware-laden phones made by Chinese companies whose execs he controls.

Doesn’t matter how widely the restriction is implemented today. You just need to know the reason why it will be widely implemented in the not-too-distant future.

.

Spreading FUD, huh? Frankly, even if widely implemented, I don’t know the impact on iPhone sales in China. Can’t use during official duties or even off-office hrs? If still can use iPhone during off-office hrs, sale of iPhone may not be affected.

FIFY.

Since there is no comment by China’s state authority, this “ban” could be a FUD by WS or Huawei… Huawei did thing like this a few times. It could be a concerted effort by WS to pressurize the market… inflation fears + Apple ban + fake NVDA chip orders + Jensen Huang’s NVDA sale…

Samsung phones don’t have spywares preinstalled. Google also make phones. AFAIK it doesn’t come with spywares.

The Chinese phones’ spyware are really out in your face. I saw people say they can’t send some photos from their Huawei phones because of its “sensitive” content. That implies Chinese phones are going deep into their owners’ content to look for subversive material. Maybe it’s also listening to voice calls? Or text messages?

If you were Xi, would you not want that level of God-like control on your subjects?

I don’t think it matters much how wide is China’s current ban. What matters is the future direction. And it will only go one way. And it doesn’t have to be an outright ban either. China can fan up the patriotic fervor of its people. Owning an Apple phone can be seen as helping the enemy. Most Chinese people will follow. You know as much as I do, China has many different ways to accomplish a policy goal. It doesn’t have to be black and white written out in an official document.
