It’s no secret that Europe was going to punish Apple in its Spotify dispute — regulators had already announced a guilty verdict a year ago. But as recently as a month ago, the conventional wisdom was that Apple’s fine was going to be something in the $500 million range.
So super-sizing that penalty seems to send a signal: Europe is going to try very, very hard to force Apple to open up the App Store. And investors are trying to figure out how much that will hurt the company long-term.
Today, other than crypto and NVDA related stocks, most decline. EU more than expected fine add a little more pressure. Don’t think there is anything to do AI strategy… WWDC is still more than 3 months away.
As usual, some1 here believe the
by mainstream media as reality. SPOT is a f… Sweden company… we can easily twist the EU’s action as wanting to restrain American firms to help European firms.
My bear thesis on Apple. I think it’s good to have everting together in one single post.
-
iPhone is aging into flat part of S curve. Nothing exciting has happened in iPhone in the last 5 years. No other blockbuster product is replacing iPhone’s growth either. AVP has proven to be a flop in terms of sales.
-
Regulatory risks. Today’s EU fine is a good example. Apple’s service revenue is dominated by its App Store tax. That business model is now under attack in both EU and US.
-
Heavy exposure to China. Chinese economy is entering its lost decades.
-
Years behind in AI. Apple only wakes up now to buy Nvidia GPUs while its competitors have been loading up for years. No, I don’t think Apple has its own LLM model for this year’s WWDC. AI researchers are a very small circle. If Apple has something this big we would have known by now.
Fully expect cult members to bury heads in sand and continue to sing praises of a sinking ship.

No point doing mouth-tongue (口舌之争) debate especially with some1 who can’t read properly and mentally blocked.
It is great for watching movies, viewing 3D videos, and as a display for a Mac, but some people have struggled to find a day-to-day use for the device.
Is not good enough? What is the expectation? Use it for every seconds of waking time?
DigiTimes claims that Apple is working on four separate second-generation Vision Pro headsets, including both a direct successor to the first-generation model and a more affordable model. There is no word on the other two versions supposedly in development. The site claims that the components for the more affordable version will cost Apple fifty percent less, which should lead to a significantly reduced price. DigiTimes believes a cheaper headset could come out in 2025.
50% cheaper i.e. $2000 in 2025 ![]()
Apple was also developing augmented reality “Apple Glasses” that were supposed to launch a year or so after the headset, but the project has been placed on hold so the company can instead focus on a cheaper version of the AR/VR headset. Apple Glasses are expected to launch in 2027 at the earliest.
This is really what I want. Anyhoo no fish, prawn also can. Make do with Vision Pro while waiting for Apple Glasses.
In extreme pessimism yet?

Apple has released the new iOS 17.4 update that brings some major changes to the iPhone (and the iPad) in Europe. Some of the biggest updates are only going to update people in the European Union, but there are also plenty of features in iOS 17.4 that are available worldwide.

Josh Brown: Not talking to traders who he felt had left AAPL. For investors, Apple is in a good place. Apple is never first in the tech e.g. Gen AI but will be the best in Gen AI.
Do you want to believe a celebrity like Josh or a SF frog?
Just occurred to me the two cult stocks AAPL and TSLA have a similar price. Which one will go to $150 first?
