Apple is a Services company now. keep calm everyone.

It is, but unlike most services companies they only sell services that run on their hardware. People have to want the hardware for the services to sell.

It means Apple is not ready.

Huawei ban prompts Apple to slightly increase iPhone production

Apple, as one would expect, has been pro-actively urging the Trump administration to reconsider the proposed tariff. Just last week, Apple sent a letter to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer articulating that a tariff would bolster non-U.S. companies and “tilt the playing field in favor of our global competitors.”

“U.S. tariffs would also weigh on Apple’s global competitiveness,” Apple’s letter states. “The Chinese producers we compete within global markets do not have a significant presence in the U.S. market, and so would not be impacted by U.S. tariffs. Neither would our other major non-U.S. competitors.

Apple will be just fine without Jony Ive (sorry Jony)

In recent years, its focus has been moving away from designing breakthrough new electronics products and toward services that it can sell alongside them, such as its streaming music offering and its upcoming streaming television service.

Apple’s service is garbage compared to google’s. The only reason people use Apple services is because they use and like their Apple hardware.

Jony is like half a founder of the modern Apple. Starting from the original colorful iMac in the 90s he’s responsible for every single hit product at Apple.

Apple is finished. RIP.

Third: This is a good news. Ive is, to state the obvious, preternaturally talented. But in the post-Jobs era, with all of Apple design, hardware and software, under his control, we’ve seen the software design decline and the hardware go wonky. I don’t know the inside story, but it certainly seems like a good bet that MacBook keyboard fiasco we’re still in the midst of is the direct result of Jony Ive’s obsession with device thinness and minimalism. Today’s MacBooks are worse computers but more beautiful devices than the ones they replaced. Is that directly attributable to Jony Ive? With these keyboards in particular, I believe the answer is yes.

Is the other way. Students are using them because the teachers said so. The teachers are using them because … you know.

F… Americans who don’t appreciate the Mac Pro and shift the manufacturing to China from the United States, Chinese appreciates the “too expensive” well designed and aesthetically outstanding Mac Pro.

Jony is worth less than $2 per share to WS. Only @manch perceives a good designer under SJ halo to be exceptional. After removing the halo, one realize their true worth.

How Apple Privacy Policy Could Unlock A Big Health Care Market

Without SJ, you get this

instead of iPad.

One day back then, he convened a meeting with his team, and the discussion turned to a particular problem in Asia. “This is really bad,” Cook told the group. “Someone should be in China driving this.” Thirty minutes into that meeting Cook looked at Sabih Khan, a key operations executive, and abruptly asked, without a trace of emotion, “Why are you still here?” Khan, who remains one of Cook’s top lieutenants to this day, immediately stood up, drove to San Francisco International Airport, and, without a change of clothes, booked a flight to China with no return date, according to people familiar with the episode. The story is vintage Cook: demanding and unemotional.

Tim Apple is a mean bastard.

That’s a famous story within Apple. What happened to Jeff Williams?

Jeff was doubling as SVP(Ops) and COO. Giving up SVP(Ops) would free him more time to work on Apple Watch and messing around with design decisions like SJ :grinning: did previously. Guess Jeff is now the unsaid Chief Design Officer influencing all hardware design decisions including Titan?

Apple used to build Mac Pros in Austin? Did not know.

Trump-Xi Meeting Winners: Apple, Chips And The Stock Market Rally :joy:

President Donald Trump said he would ease the Huawei ban to revive China trade talks That’s good news for Huawei chipmakers such as Micron Technology (MU), Qualcomm (QCOM) and Intel (INTC). A China trade war cease-fire also is promising for Apple stock as well as U.S.-listed Chinese companies such as Alibaba (BABA).

Tim Apple no good. :-1:

Ive disagreed with “some Apple leaders” on how to position the Apple Watch. Ive pushed for the Apple Watch to be sold as a fashion accessory, not as an extension of the iPhone.

Huh? He and Angela want to turn Apple into a high fashion shop selling a few pieces of overpriced products? Apple mission is to sell millions and millions of reasonably priced high quality and useful products to everyone of us.

Engineers found that the doomed AirPower charging pad “behaved more like a dorm-room hot plate, heating up loose change and failing to evenly recharge devices.”

Consequence of putting form over function. It works only when there is a genius with a good taste. Otherwise, should be form fits function.

My wife hates my Apple phone. For some reason it won’t work with our router and our other devices will. It is the phone or her. Apple is starting to piss me off.

Because of Wi-Fi connectivity? Did your other devices work well with the router? What kind of devices you need your iPhone to work with? Through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or dock/lightning connectors?

My router is an Apple AirPort Extreme (router + Wi-Fi access point). I habitually upgrade Airport every few years because need to keep up with the W-Fi standard improvement, latest is 802.11ac, HEW 802.11ax not out yet. Otherwise, your latest iPhone would end up connecting at lower speed. Also upgrade ethernet cable now and then, currently using Cat5e capable of handling Gigabit Ethernet, good enough for now.
