China Is Like The Landlord and Hong Kong Is Like The Tenant

They are doing that because of low living standards. When China becomes as rich as western nations, there would be no incentive to move abroad.

Living standard is no doubt a big driving force. But once a Chinese person made it, they will want better rule of law to protect their assets and more freedom. That’s why many are buying properties in Hong Kong and US, and sending their kids to American colleges.

Rule of law comes with living standards. Eventually the whole China will turn into what Hong Kong is today.

Better to have friends than to have enemies.

Yes, that’s actually a positive with Xi. Everything Xi does is actually economically beneficial, as opposed to Trump.

No, Xi is a big asshole just like Trump. Both need to go. :-1:

You have to look at the economic benefits and phase out the political biases. Hong Kongers protesting extradition is a political agenda that has no effect towards the economy. So ignore that noise.

Hong Kongers are very selfish. Their opinions derived from personal interest, ignore them. Massacre those demonstrators.

The world is still run by the Americans. Like it or not that’s a fact. China showing its thuggish face before it takes over will only alarm everybody. Now people know Xi is up to no good. US and allies will team up to contain China and the whole world will cheer.

American attitude towards China is hardening very fast. That’s true for both Democrats and Republicans. My bet is Xi will lead China on a warpath with the West, and he will lose.

Xi is making one bad decision after another. He doesn’t seem to value different opinions and surrounding himself with yes men and women. You know who’s the happiest person? Taiwan’s President Tsai. Her prospects didn’t look too good but thanks to Xi now she can cruise to victory. Xi is just as dumb as Trump.

Oh by the way, Xi is also played by Putin. Putin is no friend to anyone.

Trump is dumb. Xi is also “dumb”. But Putin is a clever guy? Ok… so Wu ends up winning…

Biden has a higher IQ than Putin. Problem will be resolved if Trump lose next year

Biden is too old. He might not make it out alive before his term ends. Need someone younger.

Youngers ones are worse than Trump. So Trump will be the best choice?

Even a monkey is better than Trump.

Trump is still better than Xi. Trump will go either next year or four years after that. Xi won’t go.

Besides Trump doesn’t have bad intent. He’s just clueless. Xi is pure evil.

Is it just because of extradition law change? I don’t understand why it is a big deal if China wants to hunt down criminals who fled to Hong Kong. A Hong Kong citizen or British citizen can still be tried in Hong Kong, right?

If Hong Kong has an independent court system, Hong Kong judges will decide who to hand over to China.

Even US has authority to request Canada to arrest a Chinese citizen Huawei founder’s daughter. It seems to be a common practice.

@manch is just being a little hung up about it because Hong Kong is near and dear to his heart. Really he should take it easy because if he ever wanted to be closer to becoming an American, it’s better to relinquish those feelings. Objectively speaking, Hong Kongers should embrace Xi because all he has ever wanted Hong Kong to be is a prosperous society and a symbol of Chinese achievements.

If US can request Canada to arrest Chinese citizens due to potential violation of US laws, China should have a right to request extradition of people who broke Chinese laws. It’s up to the judges in Hong Kong. You can view this as an opportunity to export rule of law to China and make it a better country.

Also it’s beneficial to Hong Kong to integrate with Shenzhen to reap the benefit of the enormous economic growth.

China is the golden dream for Hong Kong. Many people in Hong Kong don’t realize how much China has helped in Hong Kong’s boom. Without the communist China, Hong Kong may be a city with sub 2 million population

Hong Kongers really missed the boat there due to their own lack of foresight. Shenzhen was a fishing village 30 years ago. Hong Kong should’ve welcomed the migrants to settle in it as opposed to building up Shenzhen. Hong Kong could’ve been a phenominal place with all its financial might plus the innovative muscles of all the migrants. Instead, Hong Kong decided that it is too good to welcome these migrants, so they built the city along its border. Now Shenzhen is reaping all the economic benefits that should’ve been Hong Kong’s. This is the real reason behind Hong Kong’s stagnation and frustration. But really they have no one to blame but themselves.
