Head of CDC knew about the epidemic on New Year’s Day. Who told him? His counterpart in China.

only in new york /new jersey i heard, not yet in bay area

Always damn foxnews (and fox affiliated people) spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation so that they can drive their political agenda

The best antidote to conspiracy theory is the real information. Why is real information not forthcoming?

3 min later: In America we allow contesting ideas to come forward and present their sides. People are expected to be smart enough to tell apart what they like from what they do not like. People are expected to fight the message, not the messenger. I have heard fox news has viewership greater than sum total of all other network combined. Is this true? I never bothered to check whether it is true. But, you seemed to know a lot in this matter.

Few more Min later:
I put it here for you:

Rank Network Total Viewers (in millions) % Change
1 Fox News 2.57 +1%
2 MSNBC 1.80 -3%
3 ESPN 1.78 -3%
4 HGTV 1.32 -10%
5 USA Network 1.26 -18%
6 Hallmark 1.25 +5%
7 History 1.21 -3%
8 TLC 1.21 +13%
9 TBS 1.18 -17%
10 Discovery 1.16 -3%
11 TNT 1.12 -15%
12 A&E Network 1.09 +4%
13 Investigation Discovery 1.01 -9%
14 CNN 1.00 -2%

I think his proposal to ban travel from China immediately was accepted. However, he didn’t seem to know that the top priority is to do surveillance ASAP and not coming out with a super duper accurate test kit or stick to rules. When the first test kit fail, he doesn’t seem to have any contingency plans in place. Frankly any experienced project managers can do a better job.

Did you go through k-12 and college in US?
There is an emphasis on evidence-based reasoning aka close textual analysis CTA in K-12. And compulsory creative writing course in UCs. @manch Do you learn CTA during your time?

People do not have to be trained in common sense and basic reasoning. In fact only those who have common sense and basic reasoning ability will do well in CTA (I do not know what it is) or anything else requiring use of human intellect.

As for conspiracy theory: we need evidence from both sides. I see lot of colorful charts. Where do I go for evidence?

Nothing you have presented disputes what I said. Fox news having large viewership doesn’t deny the fact that it’s a source of misinformation and bias. Multiple peer reviewed studies have proven that:

and in the most recent issue, with fox news taking a different approach to corona virus internally (they started locking down employees, doing social distancing, etc) while telling their viewers it was a “Democratic hoax,” they realized they might be in hot soup

Yet you comment on it? Who teach you to do so?

Logical but not true in practice. K-12 teachers are not that smart, they have fixed answers to questions to stipulated books to read. What you say has to be similar to those fixed answers. Many online resources available to tell you those fixed answers. College professors use their own materials which don’t have fixed answers, you can surprise them with new insights :star_struck:

The Malaysian government’s decision to allow only “the head of the family” to leave the house to shop, as part of measures to suppress the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak, has had unintended consequences.

Some men are unexpectedly finding themselves responsible for the grocery shopping and suddenly having to distinguish between bewildering varieties of vegetables, spices and herbs.

Govt allowing a man to shop unsupervised? Disaster,” was the immediate jokey conclusion of one woman on Twitter.

Peer Review means not much to me and to most people who do their own analysis. I remember I told you this a few posts ago. Peer Review is sheep behavior, a group think, or cultist behavior to borrow your term. If you have something to say about the conspiracy theory, the present what you know.

So FOX news is good now that it does what you think is appropriate? Where did they say it is a hoax.
In fact, I say it is a hoax to the extent that the fear and hysteria created on coronavirus is unparalleled in history.

You sounded like it requires use of intellect. So I commented it. Was my comment not correct?

Anyway there is a subject called hermeneutics where they train you how to interpret a text based solely on what is contained in the text. In other words, you are not allowed to bring outside knowledge to interpret what is said in the text.

The basis of modern society and scientific research is based on peer review. You should go off and become an expert in everything and not trust anything and live as a hermit on an island somewhere if you think peer review is group think and cultist behavior. Your argument is duplicitous. Peer review is to allow people to question, reproduce and confirm based on factual data. Your mindset seems to equate your feelings with fact. You cannot choose to benefit from the benefits of how research and science and enquiry is conducted in general while castings stones at pieces that don’t fit your world view.

This is the problem with Fox news. It has provided a safe space for people to not be exposed to different information and allow them to live in a virtual bubble and it reinforces keeping people on the reservation by creating an us vs them mentality.

Live a modern and scientific life and be content. You pass a judgement on those who do not think your way. You call the people who do not agree with you conspiracy theorist. You claim to use science. Yet you provide no evidence to back up your claim. You claim to present a factual data which is not sufficient to convince others. It is your weakness, not someone else’s. Sorry.

You asked for examples, and I provided 3. You choose to ignore the 3 I provided as it didn’t fit your world view. So I called you out on it. We are obviously not going to convince each other, so might as well let it drop.

Poor examples. Is this you call science and peer-reviewed? Try something good next time.

This is confirmed fake

I agree I don’t use soap. My friend is paranoid.
I would rather buy packaged or canned goods. Am growing a lot of my own too. My wife insists on fresh produce. But I grew up on canned and frozen food… not so bad.
