Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

You have this bad habit? Anyhoo, I always go at the first opening hr and choose, if permit, to sit at the beginning of the belt - I get the first pick.

Which sushi place did you go, I need to avoid that place.

Canada has even colder climate than the US, and bigger Chinese and Iranian immigrant communities that keep close ties with their home countries. The Canadians have dealt with the crisis much better than us.

The study, by a team from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, the capital of south Chinaā€™s Guangdong province, sought to determine how the spread of the new coronavirus might be affected by changes in season and temperatureā€¦ā€œTemperature could significantly change Covid-19 transmission,ā€ it said. ā€œAnd there might be a best temperature for viral transmission.ā€ The ā€œvirus is highly sensitive to high temperatureā€, which could prevent it from spreading in warmer countries, while the opposite appeared to be true in colder climes, the study said. As a result, it suggested that ā€œcountries and regions with a lower temperature adopt the strictest control measuresā€.

vs

However, a separate study by a group of researchers including epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch from Harvardā€™s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, found that sustained transmission of the coronavirus and the rapid growth in infections was possible in a range of humidity conditions ā€“ from cold and dry provinces in China to tropical locations, such as the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in the far south of the country and Singaporeā€¦ Weather alone, [such as an] increase of temperature and humidity as the spring and summer months arrive in the Northern Hemisphere, will not necessarily lead to declines in case counts without the implementation of extensive public health interventions,ā€ā€¦

Did the 1st study account for humidity conditions?

Did the 2nd study say transmission is dependent on humidity conditions and independent of temperature?

Both study seem to agree on the necessity of public health interventions and didnā€™t conclude the virus will die off in Summer like flu.

My guess is both studies didnā€™t realize in the world of air-con and heaters, the difference in climate may not be that different  In tropical climate/ hot days, I can move from air-con to air-con. In cold climate, I can move from heated to heated environment.

Sounds like most of the positive actions are being taken at the local and private level. Then there was this:
ā€œDifferences of nuance are not the same as cheap partisanship, which is wisely being left to the opposition.ā€
Same in the US.

Canada also has 1/10th the US population and lower population density. They should have fewer cases just in differences in population size.

Canada testing is 10x worse than us. they donā€™t even test much for it.

Many studies focus on 1-2 variable to model a multi-variable system. Those studies are inconclusive because we donā€™t know the weight age of those variables influencing the outcome.

Now at Costco, back to normal crowd. However water, toilet paper and wipes are still out of stock.

Canadian cities are not lower density. I havenā€™t seen any reports they are under testing. US can easily have orders of magnitude more cases if we are anywhere close to normal in testing.

The political ramifications of the coronavirus is fascinating to watch. The virus led to a sharp fall in economic activity in China, which then led to sharp drop in oil prices. OPEC+ canā€™t agree on cuts to shore up oil prices and here we are. The first regime to fall may actually be Iran. Itā€™s reeling from the pandemic and the falling oil prices will put the nails into the regimeā€™s coffin.

Who would have thought about that even a week ago? Fascinating turn of events. And we are just at the 3rd inning.

manch, you start wearing mask yet?

Nope. Donā€™t want to be beat up on streets.

I see lot more people wearing it, couple in jury duty. everytime i go to asian supermarket, i see a few, numbers are increasing. Iā€™m starting to wear it now. especially working in the hotzone.

palo alto/santa clara
ranch 99, san mateo that mall chinese supermarket, many ppl start wearing though

If you need this, you need to stand at opening time , like thanksgiving sale, rush first to that spot.

Even though they limit 2 boxes per person, everything sold within 30 minutes of opening Costco !

My wife bought tons of toilet paper on amazon. Why go to Costco? You may even catch the virus there given how many people are jammed indoor there.

If the number of cases are orders of magnitude higher, then Covid-19 is far less harmful than thought. If the cases arenā€™t order of magnitude higher, then we are doing a good job of containing it. Either way, itā€™s a lot of noise about nothing.
