Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

Yes, that plus state and local. We aren’t nearly as centralized as most other developed countries.

Nor I. Nor anyone I know.

Now the NBA will play games without fans.

Uhm… there’s something really fishy about this story… They have symptoms but aren’t known to have COVID-19???

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KTVU) - Passengers who disembarked the contaminated Grand Princess cruise ship and are showing coronavirus-like symptoms are being relocated to a hotel in San Carlos.

California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) said each person transferring to the hotel has been screened by medical professionals and they only have mild symptoms that do not require hospitalization. They cannot stay at Travis Air Force Base, where a significant number of passengers have begun their mandatory 14-day quarantine.

People displaying symptoms must be moved off the base, away from the rest of the passengers.

None of the passengers being sent to the hotel are known to have caught COVID-19. They will be tested and monitored by health officials.

The unnamed hotel in San Carlos can house up to 120 people and currently has no guests.

The passengers under medical observation will not have any interaction with the general public, emergency officials said."

Good article. Lots of facts. I felt the fatality rate analysis was speculative but still within reasonable bounds.

Surgical masks protect people from those who have Covid-19. Because there are many asymptomatic cases, everybody wear masks is the right approach, protect from each other. However, USA has been slow to prepare, hence there are not sufficient masks even for healthcare professionals. As such can’t afford to tell every Americans to wear :performing_arts: I think the early birds ie nations that went through SARS bought whatever masks available in the global market. I heard that US did stop the export of masks but stocks have been depleted and take time to build the inventory.

Sure… if both parties wear the mask, it’ll be way more effective.

I agree with the western mainstream medical advice that only the sick should wear masks. But given the low or no symptoms and the lack of testing it may be prudent for everybody to wear a mask. You just don’t know whether you have it. Also the prevalence of mask wearing will make it more acceptable to society at large. There were reports people being harassed for wearing one. Why would people wear masks even if they were sick?

I think that’s one major reason why Singapore has more cases than Hong Kong, despite far longer distance from China and a tropical climate. The PM has been telling people not to wear one.

Tutorial on how to make facemask on your own ~90% of surgical mask
This is the time at hongkong where all masks are sold out and people were desperate

Hard to talk to you because you don’t seem to get it.

Obviously not enough masks in Singapore too. China and HK grabbed them before Singapore acts. Chan CS had said he is taking a risk to give each Singaporeans 4 masks per household ie he doesn’t have enough masks.

What is the f… point of telling people to wear when you can’t supply/ sell them masks. Telling people to wear masks is what an insensitive person will say. Strict social distancing and thorough contact tracing are the only viable things to do.
