From my Swiss relatives -
"Thank you for your report from Arizona. For us it seems that the virus is more rampant than for you. All countries around Switzerland, especially Italy, are also very bad off. The countries wanted to keep the borders open for a long time and this is probably the result we got. Many older people in particular are required to stay at home. More than 5 people are not allowed to meet any more anyway, and this at a distance of at least 2.5 meters.
Fortunately, we can still be a bit outside when we walk alone through fields or in the forest. In Zurich it is of course much more difficult.
Now hope that the situation with you does not get worse. However, be careful and stay healthy."
a readerâs comment is interesting:
"South Korea and the US saw the first COVID-19 case on the same day, 1/20.
South Korea tested 300K people (+10K per day.) Only infected people and their contacts were isolated. No massive economic shutdown.
The US only tested 25K in the first two months. Infected people spread the virus undetected. We now have exponential growth in cases and required shutting down the country."
Your repeated mention of the mask makes it sound like the mask is the magic bullet to kill this crisis. Mask is just one piece in a large puzzle. Yes, masks have a role to play, but letâs not overstate what they can do.
Out of curiosity, do you think that if everyone in the US were wearing a mask that we would be able to achieve containment without the extensive testing?
