Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Covid-19

NJ is hardly doing any tests, and it already has more cases than CA. It’s in deep shit.

1/4 of NY’s tests came out positive. It’s not testing nearly enough. We are only seeing the tip of an iceberg. Deep shit.

CA is in better shape. We all can use more testing but the positive number is not that bad.

Extensive testing and tracing is not possible now. Wearing masks can prevent no symptoms infected to spread out further until they recover. It’s one of the Asian main weapon against sars. Wll it prevent 100% ? Absolutely not. But look at hk border customs . How many millions Chinese from mainland they have contact with each day and how many got infected? The number is quite low. They don’t have fill gear gown on

“But when you’re dealing with the White House, sometimes you have to say things 1,2,3,4 times, and then it happens. So I’m going to keep pushing.”

“Why were we not able to mobilize on a broader scale? But I don’t think we can do that right now. I think it’s premature. We really need to look forward,” Fauci said in the interview with Science.

Summary so far:
1 in 10 tested is found to have corona virus.
Less than 1. in 10 tested is expected to die.
Less than 1 in 100 likely to die due to corona virus (actually this number will be lot less than 1 because not everyone is being tested in the first place).

Good twitter thread on how life in Wuhan is now. China’s lockdown is at neightborhood level. You aren’t allowed to even go to the market. Each neighborhood has government appointed shopper to buy grocery for everyone.

Meanwhile Americans still party during spring break in Florida.

I think this cashier at Chinese supermarket has more protection than @harriet’s doctors at kaiser.

Adding my usual disclaimer since this is trending: This thread is not an endorsement of the CCP or a political opinion. I’m simply relaying the human experiences of my relatives in Wuhan as unbiased as I can. Please take any heated political debate or racism elsewhere

Don’t think China can relax. There are over 5000 active cases and 1749 severe cases. Any of these cases can start a new cluster.

China style lockdown won’t work in US for sure. Is essentially martial law.

Wuhan dodged a bullet. If the containment doesn’t work, I am not surprised the alternative plan is to nuke it.

Coronavirus: why are so many more people dying in Italy than Germany?

  • Germany among the countries with the highest number of reported cases – yet its mortality rate is around 0.4 per cent
  • That sits in stark comparison to worst-hit Italy where hundreds of people have died in recent days

”We were able to recognise quickly how serious the situation was (when the virus was detected in Europe) and we were at the forefront as far as diagnostics is concerned,” said Christian Drosten, director of virology at Berlin’s Charite Hospital

He added that Germany was able to distribute tests to labs and doctors across the country to help them better track the virus. “Other countries lost a month or more because of that,” he said, noting that other national labs often have testing monopolies.

Which nations are he referring to :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Test, trace and track. This is how Taiwan does tracking:

“Germany has one of the highest levels of intensive care beds per capita in Europe – 29 per 100,000 residents compared to 13 in Italy, 12 in France, 10 in Spain and seven in Britain.”
This and the older folks hunkering down explain most of it. More testing might lower the infection rate but not the morality rate. Lots of “spin” in the article. All the countries doing badly have universal health care just like Germany but Germany’s is actually a hybrid public/private system.
And of course one omission is the Nazi eugenics program. They killed the weak so they couldn’t breed.

While @manch focuses on CFR, the vulnerable group looks at the fatality rate:

Fatality rate ranges from 4.36% (15415/353455) to 13.28% (15415/116031)
Inching up as the stress on the healthcare infrastructure increases.

Some nations have lower lower range:

Israel 0.08%
Norway 0.35%
Singapore 0.39%
Germany 0.42%
Taiwan 1.03%
Hong Kong 1.12% @manch What say you?
S.Korea 1.24%
USA 1.30% @pandeyathotmail Happy with the low fatality rate?
Switzerland 1.38%
France 4.04%

What major factors influence the fatality rate in a nation?
Healthcare infrastructure
Percentage of population above 60 years old

So what? The information got out anyways. I knew about the SC community transmission before you did. The people were kept quiet. Same same, but different.

In this case we are much better off fixing our problems instead of blaming other people.

The issue lies on who should release such info to the public.
Public health authorities, after investigations; OR
Any private doctors/ facilities.

I came from Singapore, and felt should be the public health authorities. YMMY.

There are good answers to your question but I’ll desist for now.

I’ll only say this (which you know but I will say it anyway), In America we’re allowed to post about and question everyone and everything including the government and the President, call him orange haired ,Russian agent, dumb etc etc.
