This is a hard question for me to answer. Because I did not panic in the first place. And I have been sharing my lack of fear from day one. I do not have an insight into why people are panicking. There are two ways to cut down the panic. A political message from President assuring people that he is charge and doing things to fight the crisis. I will leave it up to individuals to decide whether he is doing it right.
And the second is invention of a cure. That is a process that cannot be completed in days or weeks. There are some promising drugs like Chloroquine and FDA is testing it. It is approved for compassionate use.
There are a few in-progress initiatives that do calm the nerve,
a. Widespread testing and fast-around tests - still not here yet. not sure why some non-public health officials talk about this issue - guess is the so-called freedom of speech. I prefer hearing from HHS or CDC or the task force or local government officials.
b. Sufficient local availability of beds/ventilators - not articulate sufficiently clear to all. flattening the curve is attempting to achieve it at national level but as an individual, local is more relevant.
c. Loss of jobs & financial issue - addressed at national level but companies are laying off people!
Please don’t wear your SWE hat. Put on the empathy hat.
