On Friday, British ear, nose and throat doctors, citing reports from colleagues around the world, called on adults who lose their senses of smell to isolate themselves for seven days, even if they have no other symptoms, to slow the disease’s spread. The published data is limited, but doctors are concerned enough to raise warnings.
The British physicians cited reports from other countries indicating that significant numbers of coronavirus patients experienced anosmia, saying that in South Korea, where testing has been widespread, 30 percent of 2,000 patients who tested positive experienced anosmia as their major presenting symptom (these were mild cases).
Not sure if this was posted before, but this is a good site with good data, I think it’s the best UI.
I also like that you can bookmark a certain county of interest.
*Is a protein molecule protected by a layer of fat and will decay on its own
Since it is not a living organism, it can’t be killed by bactericide
**The protein will breakdown once the fat layer is removed
***Any soap or detergent would cuts the fat
***Temp above 77 degree Fahrenheit would melt the fat
***Any alcohol over 65% dissolves fat
So spirit & vodka doesn’t work because only 40% alcohol, listerine 65% work
**Complete disintegration depends on temperature, humidity and the material of the surface
***Need moisture esp in darkness to be stable
***Stable in extreme cold or air-con
So stay in a dehumidified, dry, warm and bright environments.
Disintegration time for different materials,
***Porous and fabric 3 hrs
***Copper 4 hrs
***Cardboard 24 hrs
***Metal 42 hrs
***Plastic 72 hrs
From the chart below, there is sufficient beds for 841k beds for normal hospitalization, 64.5k ICU beds for serious cases. At 50% utilization rate and 40% of confirmed Covid-19 need hospitalization, so enough beds for 1.13 million confirmed cases at national level. Currently, 46k confirmed cases
Exactly why not to send a bunch of students home, but hopefully they did it early enough to not have many cases:
" A student who left campus and returned home notified MIT administrators that they tested positive for the virus several days later, on March 19 . MIT Medical is currently conducting a public health investigation, which includes conversations with the individual, following up with people in the individual’s circle as warranted, exchanging information with public health officials, assessing the likelihood of further spread, ongoing monitoring, and other steps."
India is massively out-executing the US in test kit production (100,000 kits a week):
Btw they actually flew 2 full mobile labs and test kits to Iran to evacuate their citizens after testing. (compare how we just flew our people out of China with no testing…)
Hong Kong case number soars again. One fun thing that HK does is that the government published detailed whereabouts of the newly confirmed patients. So we see a 50-year-old mother of three has been having one night stands in clubs, a Korean flight attendant is cheating on her boyfriend in Macau… Fun read.
Chinese authorities said Tuesday they will end a two-month lockdown of most of coronavirus-hit Hubei province at midnight, as domestic cases of what has become a global pandemic subside.
The city of Wuhan, where the virus was first detected in December, is to remain locked down until April 8.
