Not manch. News stories and tweets claiming that 78M trump supporters are being disenfranchised. Voters are not automatically supporters, but that narrative makes the issue bigger than it really is.
You may have a point that not all 78 million are Trump supporter, but the way the left has gone hysterical, it appears that in the mind of the left, the number of Trump supporters is twice that number, somewhere closer to 156 million. Anyway, even if the number of Trump Supporter is 0, what the left is afraid of is that it can never recreate the glory left achieved in the year 2008 when Obama was first elected. There is nothing they can do about it. They are never going to get these days back. They have entered the phase of diminishing returns, where to earn $1, they will have to spend $1.5. And that is why the left is so uncomfortable.
I do not think you need to worry about what they teach in universities and Schools anymore because people have tuned themselves out of those already. A magic looks magical only till the people do not understand the trick.
I don’t think Trump represents all of Republican Party, but it is a pretty big chunk.
The national public opinion survey, conducted Thursday and Friday, also showed that seven out of 10 of those who voted for Trump in November opposed the action of the hardcore supporters who broke into the Capitol while lawmakers were meeting to certify the election victory of Democrat Joe Biden.
From this poll it seems 30% of the people who voted for Trump are die hard Trump fans. I think we can safely draw the line here. People who think storming the Capitol is OK are definitely Trump’s die hard followers. 30% is a pretty sizable minority, and they are more energetic and vocal than the other 70%. These are the people who vote in Republican primaries, and any GOP elected officials are scared of being primaried by the extremists.
GOP has a big problem now. There will be intense civil war for the soul of the party after Trump.
You are confusing yourself too much with Republican and Democrat divide. In the mind of average trump supporter, both Republican and democrats are the same who are united in sharing the spoils of the power. Think of Republicans and Democrats and two product from same company to address different segments of market. Just like you have Honda for the poor, and Acura for affluent.
I have heard they (left) are going not only after Trump, but also after platforms like Gab and Parler. If there is a massive shift of user base from twitter and Facebook, this will not only is a political shift but also an economic shift.
Liberals don’t understand why people hate them. Their hypocritical arrogance blinds them. Nancy will achieve nothing and Biden wants nothing to do with it.
So this supports my point quite well - 70% of likely Republicans don’t support Trump enough to support this violence or a destruction of our republic.
The only problem the GOP has is finding a good candidate for the next set of elections. Where are those 30% going to go? They’re either staunchly republican and therefore a captive group, or they’re not republican enough to care–they’re just Trump supporters aka the Green Flamingos and they might vote Dem in another election anyways.
The biggest issue the GOP has is that there are a number of Democrats who are being disenfranchised by how far left the Dems have gone who are inclined to join the GOP. The question is whether they want to openly do so after this fiasco. But I think a lot of Republicans would welcome a return to some of the “nicer” candidates that had been put forth in the past years.
The Republicans have nothing to worry about. The Democrats already have 74m that can’t stand them. They didn’t vote for Trump as much as against Democrats. All they have to do what they promised to on their platform to make another 10m hate them.
They don’t understand Trump just harnessed that hatred. He didn’t cause it.
The Democrats will raise taxes, gas prices, immigration and regulations. If that isn’t enough they will burn books, erase American culture and make the everyone miserable with PC thought control. Their dystopian vision is doomed. So any Republican will be preferable in 4 years.
The Republican party will be in much better shape if it exorcises the Trumps and Trumpism. Both of the Bushes and Reagan were true Statesmen, men with ethics who genuinely believed in conservative values.
Trump and those around him only care about ego and raw power. This was never about values – he saw a lane to push a racist populist agenda with “cultural conservatives” and took advantage of it. Establishment Republicans made a deal with the devil and, predictably, the party has gone to hell. This is what all of us never-trumpers have seen coming for more than four years. Fortunately no nukes involved, yet. Hopefully the rest of the party is finally taking their heads out of the sand.
You appear so out of date. The political fault-line is running not between republicans and democrats, but between those who want American First/MAGA and the Globalists/Internationalists. Now some of the republicans and some of the democrats will be split between the two. Just as Trump, a democrat for the most of his life, took side with America First.
I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016 because I can’t stand Trump. I voted for Trump in 2020 because I can’t stand sanctimonious progressives. My CA vote was meaningless. Symbolic. Just like my third time signing a Newsom recall. But the progressives lies will eventually take them down. Trump needs to go away. But so does Nancy and the rest of the grim reapers controlling the Democrats
MAGA/America First is just a reincarnation of the Southern Democratic Party, aka the Confederacy, a force that has been in play in American politics now for almost two centuries. We saw it in all of the debate around the Confederate statues, and we see it in the debate around immigration, esp. from non-white aka “s**t-hole” countries.
You think Nancy is the worst. Nancy is just a reflection/(is reacting to) of what the Democratic voter has become. These voters think money should be distributed first, before it’s made that is, and government will provide all jobs, and blacks are not discriminated in NBA but everywhere else(they don’t think through why if so), i.e. the 1st generation of Asian immigrants who are here in the last 10 years are not discriminated against socio economically but Blacks are.
Oh and some Scientist/s(have a very narrow education but very proud of their college degree and hence have all answers) CA Democrats also think that COLA has no effect on CA poverty rate
Wait till the next generation of AOC Lites of the Democratic party take over from Nancy
I think you all misread where the newer generations want to take this country. Millennials and younger are substantially more liberal than boomers and gen x. The things that you guys think are PC non issues: racial justice, climate change and income inequality etc, are taken far more seriously by the younger generations.
As long as the GOP laugh at these issues and refuse to engage with good faith, it’s future is dim in American politics.
The 74m number Trump and co keep talking about? Well why did Trump lose then? Because millions more voted for the other party.
There are plenty of studies done which show people who identify as democrat are less happy and have lower self-esteem (going back to 1972 so it’s not about being unhappy because of Trump). It’s not surprising people with low self-esteem consistently vote for the government to fix their problems. The government fixing it seems better than fixing them themselves, since they don’t view themselves as capable. They don’t care that we have decades of proof the government doesn’t fix them and creates massive unintended consequences. They know they can’t fix them, so their only hope is someone else can.
Millennials are the unhappiest generation, and they lean the furthest left. Go figure. It’s also not a shock, since they were raised with a hyper focus on self-esteem. The whole movement backfired creating a generation that doesn’t have it, since they’re constantly comparing their own life to what they see on social media.
Yeah, this really seems like “progress” that’s worth celebrating.
